- Choose a reputable company that specializes in corporate relocation. Do not mistake a household mover for a corporate mover.
- Have everything planned well in advance in order to finish the process as soon as possible. Remember, just because the work week is typically Monday to Friday doesn’t mean that the move can’t take place over a weekend.
- Make sure you and your mover are familiar with the new location. This way, you can plan the layout for your new office in advance, making the move a quicker one.
- It is a good idea to prepare an office moving guide containing all pertinent information about your new office. Give a copy to everyone connected with your company. This guide should include a location map of the office, blue prints of the office, and an employee seating map.
- Inform the post office of your change of address. Also, make sure you do not lose any information on your various contacts during the moving process. Business will restart shortly after the move, and it’s never helpful when your contacts list is buried in a box somewhere.
- Be sure to label furniture and other items so they do not get misplaced during the move. This will also ensure that each employee’s belongings are relocated along with the proper owner.
- When moving computers and other electronics, it is a good idea to hire a professional to disassemble and reassemble everything. Don’t forget to remove fluids, toners, and other materials that can spill out from printers and photocopy machines.
- Valuable and personal items, such as legal papers, security documents, and cash, should be kept under your control and moved privately.
- You should accompany, or authorize someone else to accompany, the mover. By supervising the move, you can ensure that the packing, unpacking, and rearranging are performed competently and completely.
