Herbs- nature's aromatic bounty, magical healers are essential for healthy living. Mankind is aware of herbs and their healing powers since time immemorial.

Herbs not only play a vital role in culinary and medical fields but are also widely used for the basic well-being of humans. To lead a salubrious life, every home should have a herb garden to lead a salubrious life.
Variety:
What kind of herbs do you want in your garden? Aromatic, culinary, or ornamental? Deciding the varieties of herbs also decides the size of your garden.
Place:
If you have enough space, you can actually place the saplings in the soil or else you can put them in pots itself.
Things to remember:
  • Seeds should be sown to grow some herbs; some varieties require saplings to be planted.
  • Factors like fertility of the soil and drainage facility should be considered before planting. Ensuring proper drainage facility is a must to grow herbs.
  • Soil should not contain acid or alkaline content in it.
  • Planting the herbs in wet soil should be avoided.
  • Water the plants carefully and adopt proper means of pest control.
  • Any type of container can be used to grow plants – pots, baskets or boxes.
Pots:
  • Use small pots for growing herbs as they can be easily moved. At times, to avoid rain or too much of sunshine you might have to move the pots inside the home.
  • Initially, place a layer of crushed stone or some other similar material in the pot.
  • Two-thirds of the pot should be filled with compost and then herbs should be planted in them.
  • Mulch can be used as the top layer in the pot.
  • Adding organic matter to the pot will help the herbs grow well.
Stay healthy using the home-grown herbs.
