When going about the unpacking process, there are bound to be items that you need sooner rather than later. What do you do with the items you don't need immediately until you have the time to put them away? Rather than leaving them in their boxes for an indeterminate amount of time, you can safely put these goods away for a later date.Kitchen |
| When unpacking your kitchen, sort out the items that you will need right away. This can include your pots and pans, everyday kitchen tools and utensils, food, and your most-used kitchen appliances. Items that you won't need immediately, such as china, wineglasses, and fine silver should be left in their protective packaging. You can put these things into your cabinets or drawers until you are ready to use them or put them on display. Any kitchen appliances that you won't use in the immediate future can be tucked away into a cabinet, pantry, or closet until you find a more suitable and permanent place for them. | | Photo by cx ed, sxc.hu

| TIP: If you plan on keeping your appliances stored away for a while, wrap them in a cloth or other covering to keep them from getting dusty. |
BedroomWhile it may be tempting to unload everything in your bedroom on your first day, this isn't always necessary or possible. If you can't immediately put together your bed frame and headboard, you can at least put these items in the bedroom and leave them against the wall or in a corner. Until you have the time or extra help to put these things together, you can always just place the mattress on the floor.
There are several other items for your bedroom that you won't have to put away or set up on your moving day. These can include the following: - Lampshades – Until you're ready to set up lamps, the lampshades can be put on the floor in the corners of your rooms. By putting them in the corner, they will be out of the way and have a minimal chance of getting damaged.
- Artwork – If you have any hanging artwork or large mirrors, these items can be left against the wall until you are able to put them up.
- Clothes – You can leave your clothes in their cardboard boxes until you decide to put everything away. Before you find the time to unpack them, you can leave your boxes of clothing in your closets.
Bathroom |
Photo by heltje, sxc.hu | | Getting your bathroom ready after you move in is obviously very important; chances are, you're going to need to use the bathroom on your first day in the new home. No matter how hard you try, you might not have time to organize and put away all of your toiletries and other bathroom items.
Any items that you use on a regular basis should be unpacked at some point on your moving day. The items that you won't need immediately can be stored in your bathroom cabinets or in the linen closet for the time being. When you have the time, you can sort through these items and organize them to your liking. |
Miscellaneous ItemsThere are bound to be plenty of items for every corner of your home that you won't need right away. These items can include artwork and other decorative items, sports equipment, toys, books, etc. Since you will want to unpack only the essentials at first, these goods can be stored in a low-traffic area. Your garage, basement, or attic can be used to store these things and keep them safe until you have the time to unpack them.
It can be impossible to get everything unpacked in one day or even a week. However, by knowing what to do with your non-essential items on moving day, you can be sure that they'll be safe and protected until you put them away. | | |
