Hello, and thank you for visiting Movers.com!

When long distance movers arrive to pick up your belongings, they will load them onto the truck and hit the road. But where exactly do they go?

When transporting a shipment across the country, the movers rarely make one straight trip. In order to maximize profits, moving companies will handle as many shipments as they can along the way. Your goods are likely to be transferred to a warehouse, another trailer, and consolidated with the belongings of other customers located along your route. The moving crew that arrives to deliver your shipment on the west coast will likely be a separate crew than the one that picked up your goods on the east coast.

Hiring Quality Long-Distance Movers

Any long-distance mover you are considering for hire should have a US DOT number (or ICC MC number for older companies). Movers that operate interstate are required by the FMCSA to be registered with a US DOT so that they can be monitored and regulated. You should also do a background check on the mover by reading online reviews, reviewing their record on the Better Business Bureau and checking for any outstanding customer complaints. The more information you have on the mover, the more reassured you can be that they are a reputable company. Additionally, be sure to request an in-house estimate before hiring any company. This way, your mover will be able to give you the most accurate quote possible for your move.

If you are from the east coast and headed west, you can start comparing quotes from long-distance movers in you area right now at Movers.com! Don't forget to stop back and tell us about your experience by writing a moving review!
