Im moving internationally and currently torn between shipping my belongings by air or by sea. Which method is better, and how do they compare to one another?

This is a great question, and it's one that a lot of people are asking these days, as the frequency and availability of air shipping has increased. In the past, shipping internationally by air was too expensive for many people and was not considered to be much of an option when relocating overseas mostly because moving companies that shipped by air internationally were not easy to come by.

However, in recent years air shipping has become more prevalent and thus the cost has gone down substantially, suddenly making it a viable option for many people who are moving overseas and want a different option for shipping their belongings.

While shipping by sea has been the standard way to ship internationally for years, mostly because of its reliability and affordability, its one major drawback is what air shipping capitalizes on: speed of delivery.

International shipments by sea can sometimes take from two to four weeks to be delivered, and possibly even longer, depending on the regulations of the port where the shipment is arriving. Some ports have strict import quotas that could force freighters to stay docked for days at a time before they can be unloaded.

On the other hand, shipping by air can be done in one to two days, making it a much quicker option for people who are moving overseas on a tight schedule and have a short window of time in which they need their belongings to be delivered to their new home.

Of course, when shipping internationally, it's important that you make sure your moving company is a certified international mover by an agency such as AMSA. You can make that search a lot of easier by visiting Movers.com and checking out the free competitive moving quotes from moving companies all over the United States that are reputable and reliable.
