Im worried that I wont be able to afford my upcoming move. Im trying to keep a strict moving budget, but moving is just so expensive. What are some ways for me to save money during my move without cutting corners?

There are several proven and effective methods for cutting costs on your move, and the best part is that they are easy for just about anyone to follow, no matter what type of move you'll be partaking in and what your situation is.

It all begins with packing. Packing can be expensive! Those boxes and supplies add up, and they add up quickly. But you can avoid a huge portion of your packing costs by choosing to use free packing materials. These can range from old items you have around the house (tape, markers, old blankets and towels for protective padding) to things you can find at your local grocery store like empty cardboard boxes. Why pay $2 a piece for new moving boxes when you can get empty boxes for free?

If you still want to further reduce your packing costs, you can try packing yourself. Rather than paying your moving company a hefty fee to pack all of your belongings for you, roll up your sleeves and get to packing yourself. It might be hard work, but it will be worth it in the end. If you want to go all the way and do the entire move by yourself, then you'll be talking major savings. If you want to go this route, ask around amongst your friends and family and see if anyone has a large truck you can borrow for transporting your goods. If not, renting a moving truck is another cost-effective option.

If these options don't sound appealing to you, you can always cut costs for your move by raising additional funds. How? By selling anything that you don't need anymore! Holding a garage sale or a yard sale before your move and selling things like old clothes and furniture that don't need to make the trip to your new home can bring in a lot of cash that you can put towards your moving expenses.

Lastly, moving during the off-peak moving seasons can also help you save a lot of money on your move. It's commonly stated that the spring and late fall months are the best times of the year to move because moving companies tend to charge the lowest prices during these months because of lower demand.
