It seems like your new residence is a hop skip and a jump away from your old one, right? No problem! Start by getting a free quote from some reputable moving services in your area, right here at Movers.com.

The cost of moving locally

Since your move is considered a local move, movers generally charge an hourly rate for their services, with extra charges for amount of stairs, packing materials used, longer carries and extremely heavy items (usually about 250 pounds or more). The amount of your goods will ultimately determine how many movers will be assigned to your move. Local moving companies typically have rates that start at $100 an hour, but can be more depending on your area and how many movers are needed. Usually your move will take between two and four movers. If the company is packing, wrapping and loading all of your items, this will take longer and end up costing more as well.

You should always get at least three estimates from different companies to compare prices. Check back to some of our guides formore information on the types of moving estimates, questions to ask your mover and common mistakes when hiring a mover.

Tips to remember:

  • Be open and honest with your potential mover about all the details pertinent to your move. You don't want to get charged extra for any items that weren't factored into your estimate. Be as detailed as possible.
  • You should know where you want your furniture before you get to the new location, so your movers can expedite the unloading process and have you settled in no time.
  • If the moving truck cannot park on the street of your residence, the company will have to shuttle your goods with a smaller truck back and forth. This will cost extra.
