When purchasing furniture, it's good to have a budget and an idea of how much you are willing to spend. Of course, when buying new furniture, the question may pop into your mind "what should I splurge on?". That typically depends on what piece of furniture you’re buying. To find out more, read on.

Is expensive furniture worth it?What To Save On and What To Splurge On

Furnishing your home doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Follow these tips on what to spend more on, and what to save money on -

Couch – Spend More On

Your couch is one of the most important furniture items in your home. It’s where your family gathers to spend time together, where you nap on, where you read on, and overall, where you spend a lot of time. Since you and your family spend so much time on your sofa, this is a piece of furniture you will want to invest some money into.

Keep in mind if you have kids or pets that spending more on a couch may not pay off in the end. So, go with something that works well with your situation. Do some research into different couches to find one that works for you and your family.

Lighting – Save On

You can find lighting for your home just about anywhere – Home Depot, Lowe’s, even Target and Walmart. Because lighting is so readily accessible, we recommend saving some money in this category and going a little cheaper here so you can splurge in other areas.

Side Tables – Save On

Side tables can be purchased from just about anywhere, anymore. Because side tables aren’t used often and don’t see a whole lot of wear and tear, it’s okay to go with a lower quality. So, if you find a cheaper table you like, go ahead and snatch it up.

Mattress and Sheets – Spend More On

Having a great mattress can make a massive difference in your everyday life. If you have back problems, splurging on a good, comfortable mattress can really make a difference in your back pain throughout the day. Look up different mattresses online to see different reviews to see what people have to say about those particular mattresses.

The same can be said for comfortable sheets as well. If your sheets are itchy, and overall, not great to sleep under, then your sleep might get interrupted a lot and overall be unhappy. If you get nicer sheets for your nicer mattress your sleep quality will be nicer, and you’ll have a much more comfortable sleep.

Area Rugs – Your Choice

Area rugs are great items for your home. They break up room, quiet areas down, and define sitting areas. They are well-known to take a lot of abuse as well, such as spills, dirt being tracked on them, and they’re always getting walked on. Because they take so much abuse, this is one category where it’s your choice.

While expensive area rugs may last longer, they may also be more delicate and hold onto stains whereas cheaper rugs may not last as long, but wick stains and dirt away. You can buy rugs at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Target, and Walmart.

Flooring – Save Money On

While quite a few people out there might tell you to splurge on flooring, it isn’t necessary anymore. You can get the hardwood flooring look without breaking the bank by going with peel and stick vinyl flooring. Carpet has gone down in price as well, and there are always discounts on stone tiles and hardwood planks. So, flooring in your home does not have to cost an arm and a leg if you shop intelligently.

Will Cheap Furniture Wear Out Faster?

More than likely, yes it will. However, it is all about your budget. If you don’t have $5,000 to spend on a couch, then spend what you feel comfortable spending and be proud of it. Enjoy your furniture, don’t be afraid to use it because accidents happen (and they will happen).

Another thing to keep in mind is that tastes will change over time, especially if you decide to go with trendy furniture. If you choose to go trendier, you may decide to go cheaper with those furniture pieces so you can replace them easier.
