I am storing a mattress in a public storage space for an extended period of time. Should I wrap the mattress with plastic first and seal it off with tape? Then it into a packing box and completely seal that off with tape too? Im trying to prevent dust and pests.

Hello, and thank you for visiting Movers.com!

Protecting your items and furniture in storage is important to prevent damage from condensation, mold, dirt, and vermin. Wrapping your mattress securely in plastic and then packing it inside a storage box is a great way to protect it from dust, debris, pests and water damage!

To further protect your mattress or any other items you are storing, it's a good idea to consider a climate-controlled storage unit. This keeps humidity levels low and will protect any warping or other damage from excessive heat. However, if a climate-controlled unit isn't on your budget, you can combat moisture other ways, such as with dessicant packs, kitty litter, charcoal or vapor barriers.
