frustrating experience

My boyfriend and I were moving from NJ to CT in March. I spoke to the manager Evan who gave me a fair quote on what it would be to move. After reviewing the paperwork, we decided to move forward with them. We were supposed to be moving on a Saturday, we got a call from one of the movers on the previous Thursday saying that they needed to move us on Friday instead of Saturday because their workers needed a Saturday off. On the phone they made it seem as though if they moved us on Saturday that they would then not be able to deliver the same day and our items would have to go in storage, we reluctantly agreed to Friday. They came Friday moving and began moving out stuff in the truck in which they then told us that we would have to go over our cubic square amount and cost extra, we agreed to pay a little more for a certain number of cubic feet to end on. We paid half of the amount at pickup in cash and we were to pay the other half upon delivery. When we were driving to CT, one of the movers Juan, texted me and said that HE messed up the price and accidentally took off an extra discount and stated it would then be about $350 more at delivery, I argued this point stating that it was not my fault that he messed up the numbers and I will be paying the price we agreed upon at delivery. Upon delivery, Juan and the movers began unloading our items but stopped unloading until we paid them. Unfortunately in order to get our stuff we had to pay them the "new price". They then unloaded all of our stuff and dropped a few boxes of glass items as well. I reached out to Evan to explain all of this and he referred me to the claims center. From the claims center, I emailed back and forth with Carolina who stated that my glass items were only worth $50 that they would reimburse me (which they were not, they were worth more than that). I also spoke to her and Evan regarding the additional charge after the already agreed upon price and they said that it was a mistake and would not reimburse us. This was an already difficult time that was made incredibly more frustrating by this company. We ended up paying roughly $1000 more than we were quoted. Liars and thiefs

DO NOT INSULT YOURSELF TO DO BUSINESS WITH A BUNCH OF NOONES. THEY WILL DRAG YOU TO THEIR LEVEL. Like many people here, I trust the first guy that called me. I have specifically asked about the insurance and the contact person told me your belonging is insured up to 10k. I signed the contract over the phone and paid the initial price. When they came for pick up, they nagged on the price and increased it by $1200. Then at the drop-off, they said there were more than 7 stairs and charged me $150 more for the stairs (they already knew that the delivery was on the second floor and which apartment could be on the second floor and has 7 stairs, do the math). They delivered our stuff at 11 PM and immediately left. They tore up many heavy-duty boxes, broke items, and also chipped almost all wooden items. When we started unpacking, we realized our box of shoes was missing, worth almost $2000 shoes. We called them and informed them about it. We specifically asked them to find our box and we don't want any monetary compensation. After a month, they told us we could not find it for you and based on the contract, we would pay you 60 cents per pound and a box of shoes is going to be $36. I remind them of their agent's interpretation of the insurance involved here but they deny such conversation ever happened. I pressed them and we went and listened to the call. After they realized they told me a lie, they increased their offer to $300 for all the damages including the box of shoes, while $300 barely covers the rest of the damages. I have talked with a lawyer and I am going to take them to court. THEY ARE A FRAUD COMPANY AND I HAVE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SHOW THEM WHO THEY REALLY ARE. Read more

Real pros

The sales rep reached out to me,we talked through what we'd move,pack up,and what it'd cost. I decided to save and pack myself. Man,taking everything apart and then putting it back together again in the new place was quite a ride! But the moving crew definitely helped a lot. There were some bumps in the road when it came to unpacking - there were a couple of broken plant pots. This company is a joke. Avoid them at ...

The worse company I have ever dealt with. I have been in the military for 20+ years and never had the issues before. First, they quoted $7,000 and some change and I ended up paying close to $17,800. Second, they lost our shipment and we got our shipment almost 4 weeks later. Third, half of my furniture, computer monitor, bookshelves, and bedroom sets came in broken or damaged. Fourth, communication was horrendous and when we finally contacted someone they had no idea what was going on. Now they offer to pay $200 for the damage. That doesn't even cover the computer monitor. I already spend another $5,753.00 replacing furniture they broke. My advice is to stay away from these so-called movers. MOVING SCAM (Bait and Switch, Forged ...

"Always #1" is a scam moving company connected to at least nine other companies: "Lighthouse Vanlines," "Express Relocation Systems," "Countrywide Relocation," "All American Van Lines," "Meridian International Movers," "State To State Relocation," "National Moving Service," "Corporate Relocation," and "Relocation Solution." Most of these businesses, if they haven't been shut down yet, all have 1-star reviews on Yelp, similar stories of bait-and-switch tactics or damaged items, and most connected to one man, "Leo" (also goes by Levani). Most are based out of New Jersey (many at the same 333 Veterans Blvd Carlstadt, NJ address) or Georgia, and share different pieces of info (phone #, address, etc—google them if you don't believe me). I only know this info because I wasted too much of life doing extensive research on them after the numerous issues my family and I had during a very difficult move last year. This was our first big move and we found them because we only had two weeks to get our stuff from Philly to L.A. They pulled a standard bait and switch scam, offering a low-ball estimate and increasing the price (by $2k) after the truck was loaded with our goods (which is illegal). In addition to that and numerous other more minor issues (not able to tell us where our goods were for 2 weeks, not responding to calls, adding extra charges etc), we experienced the following 3 major issues: no license to operate in CA (which is illegal in the state of CA), no Bill of Lading until day of delivery, and also on the delivery day, showing a new contract with new prices and our forged signature. Luckily, after taking them to court, we got our $2,691 back. I know far more about moving law than I ever hoped to (I am a music teacher goodness' sake!) and know now how many of these businesses operate. THE WORST - STAY AWAY

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THESE CLOWNS TO MOVE ANYTHING YOU OWN. They are liars, from the salesperson I first contacted to the "foreman" to everyone who works for this terrible company. The salesperson was my friend though as every sentence he spoke ended with " My Friend". I would never be a friend with such a low life. He said yes to every concern I had, knowing it was not going to happen. Months before the move I indicated moving dates needed and he was always no problem, yes my friend, etc. He is back under his rock now waiting for his next victim. We had been told and believed they would be arriving on a Thursday to pack the truck. From day 1 this was communicated to them, and they said ok. Monday afternoon we are still packing, and they call and say the are coming on Tuesday morning. I told them about the agreement to come Thursday and that we were not ready but they just said they were scheduled for Tuesday at 8:00. Call the office and of course no one picks up or responds to our message. Me and my wife then scramble and pack until midnight. We did get a message that the truck would be there at 2:30. Tried to call them back but no one picked up. The doorknob had confused us with another victim – Tuesday 7:46 AM I wake up to a moving truck backing into my driveway. We still were not done packing. We had to pack as the movers were loading the truck. We left for the new house on Sunday trying to time our arrival to the agreed upon arrival of the moving truck on Monday, late morning. We got there and then waited, and waited, and waited – no one arrived. I called them and the clown who answered the phone starts talking about the window they have for delivery – up to 10 days. We have nothing but a couple of basic items we could fit in the car, 2 cats, and that is it. Spent most of the day trying to call them, no one answers. Slept on a cement floor that night. Next day we call, and the gem states the truck was being loaded at the warehouse on Monday night (this is Tuesday now) should be there some time in the next few days . Very hard to hear here as there were kids screaming in the background. Not sure if she was running a daycare or the kids were hers, but impossible at times to understand her. Gave me a number to someone who didn’t know what I was talking about, just another yes man. Actually got in touch with the driver and he played the part of the hero. The driver was going to be another day to get my items delivered because he said his A/C was not working right. I did not believe the snowflake as what kind of man would say this? Did not cause a stir just said “ok”, knowing it was another lie. Then he calls back and says he will be there on Thursday, he arrived Thursday evening. Then, when they finally get the items to my rental it is a total disaster. All boxes are crushed, looks like they threw them down a flight of stairs. Horrible Customer Service

PICK-UP Initial contact was good, setting up inventory with the sales agent James Davidson and Amy to get a budget price and get contract going and date locked down. However that was the end of our good experiences with this company. We understood that the price was going to change as we added or subtracted the amount of boxes. That's not our complaint. We were suppose to get a call a few days prior to pick-up finalize the inventory, never happened. We called James and Amy constantly throughout the entire process, but never got a call back. They said they would be available and to call them if anything came up, which it did, they never returned 1 call. Only seemed interested in getting us to sign the contract and taking a deposit. Movers came for pick-up, there were 3 of them, really good guys, no complaints with this part of the process or with them doing their job. At the end of the loading the mover added $400 for an item we measured and covered with James on our initial walk thru and was itemized and noted on our contract. The movers said required special handling. I said James already knew that and we paid $300.00 to handle the large cabinet. So we kept calling James and Amy to dispute, not never received a call back. So we paid it on the pickup and hoping to resolve before of shipment arrived. As we traveled across country, we eventually got a hold of somebody named Tiana, who tried to help us resolve the extra $400 charge. She kept saying the same thing to us over and over which did not make sense for the extra charge. We said to call James as he did the initial inventory and knew and charged for exactly what were disputing. Apparently she no more luck than we did as James completely ghosted all of us. DELIVERY Now comes the good (or bad) part. Tiana said they would call a day before thy would arrive and gave us his number. That never happened so we called them, he said Thursday (11/3) at 12 noon, then when they didn't show he said Friday (11/4) at noon and we didn't show, we called and he said 4-6pm Friday. They arrived (2 movers) at 6pm. Almost all calls were initiated by us. They were less than a mile away a and were unbale to figure out how to get here. We don't live in a complicated or remote area. So we had to drive to them and show them back. Unbelievable, literally 2 turns. When talking with Tiana before the delivery, she said we could use Zelle to do the funds transfer and gave us the Always1Moving Gmail to send the money to. So I set up the transfer ready to go when the movers got here. Well guess what, that's not the Gmail the driver wanted us to use. First he asked me Venmo to someone's name that look like a personal account, then when I said no to that, he gave a van line Gmail to Zelle the funds to. I beginning to think I'm getting scammed and they driver and his boss are thinking I don't have the money. I have moved more than 10 times since I went to the Navy in 1986, and while those experiences were generally good, These guys were professional, cheerful, and attentive - offering assistance and ideas for how to pack up the home thus saving us time and effort to move the home. Quick and Easy

Had to move from TN to FL for work, did a quick google search for movers and came across Always 1 moving, gave them a quick call. Spoke with peter he provided me with a quote. It was a last minute move so they showed up the next day to pickup our things. The crew was able to pack up all the boxes and furniture in a few hours. overall good experience

We spoke with Joel over the phone he was able to do the quote fairly quick we received a price of $2800 to move from Maryland to new jersey which was fine for us. We scheduled our move between the 23rd and 24th of July about 3 days before our pickup date. we got a call from one of there dispatchers to see if we can move a day early on the 22nd. this was the only thing i found bad about the company, getting stuff done a day early was a bit of a pain with me my wife and two kids. The crew was great though Miguel and the guys was very patient with us, we weren't able to get everything packed up in time, but they did assist us with a few things and waited for us to finish. the crew was 5 stars for sure. Delivery was 2 days later since we didn't close on the house until the 25th in the morning, crew came early afternoon and was out of the house by 6pm. All in all it was an overall great experience, i recommended our mother in law to them so we will see how that move goes. Read more

Worst Moving Experience of My Life

Always #1 moving used dishonest business practices to raise the cost of my move $2000 after all of the inventory was on the truck and there was no option to go with a less expensive, more honest company. The dishonest practices are as follows: 1. Charging me an additional 66% from the estimated cost even though the inventory was consistent with my estimate. 2. Not being honest about how the volume of my inventory was measured, and adding an additional 40 cubic feet to the volume from what was reported to me by the movers. 3. Indicating that the dropoff date would be August 1st, when that was not the case 4. Raising the per flight cost of stairs from the estimate the day of dropoff 5. Indicating that managers who can actually answer my questions would review my case and contact me within 48 hours, when I was never contacted by them. Read more

Horrible Experience

Movers came early before the window they told us, making us scramble to finish packing. Quoted at $4060 for 617cf. We removed a 3 seater sofa, double dresser with mirror, queen size boxspring, twin size bed frame, and computer chair from our initial estimate and paid $5026 for 750cf. They obviously underestimate the cf. On 6/14, we told them our requested delivery date (6/30) and new address across the country. We waited in limbo for 33 days (22 business days) beyond our requested delivery date before finally getting our things. The whole time, I was constantly passed from one representative to another (spoke to 6 people in all) who never gave me any update aside from the fact that they HAD NO update and were "working on it". Each time they told me that they didn't know why there was a delay and that they didn't have any updates and would call me back once they "heard from dispatch". Of course, days would pass with NO update before I had to reach out to ask for updates or ANY information. I kept reaching out for any update or reason for delay and never heard anything but the same until 7/20/22 when representative#5 lied and told me that it was "out for delivery" and would tell me the following day about the driver's information. Nothing. 7/22, I reach out because I didn't receive an update, and no response. 7/23 I group text and finally get a response saying that they will call me as soon as they know about the driver info. 7/25 I group text (seems to be the best way to get a response is to group text EVERYONE you came into contact with) again after receiving no update, and they say they will check with dispatch again. Rep#6 calls and says that our stuff is actually still at warehouse and will contact with updates. No word. 7/28/22 I text rep#6 asking for an update and he says our things are still at warehouse. I asked the location of the warehouse and never received a response. Asked for ANY type of delivery date estimate. How could they not know ANYTHING after all this time?! He finally says dispatch finally got back to him and that I would get our things within 10 days. Delivered on 8/1. They had since 6/14 to plan to get our things delivered around 6/30. It took 33 days for us to get our things (22 Business days) and the whole time never got an estimated delivery window until the VERY end, almost a month after our requested delivery date. I had to hound them with texts and calls the whole time. No one could tell me anything substantial. We were waiting in an empty home for over a month, constantly having to call them and text them bc they had no information or updates, never knowing if or when our things would ever come. Also, they do NOT put all your furniture back together. missing bolts. Please don't take apart the furniture if you're not going to put it all back together! And the boxes with up arrows or "fragile" marks are completely ignored and treated indiscriminately. Boxes upside down. heavy on top of light. HORRIBLE company Read more

We hired always 1 moving last minute because our previous mover didn't show to pickup our things. We spoke with Stephanie over the phone after a quick google search for movers near me. Luckily they had room for us last minute. movers showed up next day to pickup our things, packed and loaded our entire two bedroom condo is 4 hours. Will use again

We used Always 1 moving to move our belongings from Macon Ga to Dallas Texas back in May our Rep was Joel. From our initial phone call to move day everything went well did a quick quote over the phone with joel since we were only moving a few things to Texas for a temporary job relocation. Moving crew was great we did the full pack option so the guys came in and packed my 1 bedroom in one day delivery took about a week and a half which was fine. We have a big SUV so we packed it with some things that we needed right away. We are going to use them again when we have to go back to GA. Would recommend! Read more

Never again

So many broken things. High end things too. Broke 2 corners on a 17,000 hot tub. Hopefully just cosmetic as I have not hooked the tub up yet. Broke the arm on a 3,000 Lazy Boy leather sofa, ripped the felt on a pool table, broke the music stand on a Yamaha digital piano, broken bowls, dishes. Zero communication once they picked up. Nobody could reach their dispatch center to find out when the truck would arrive after our move, not even their own employees could make contact with their dispatch center. I purposely left 5 utility shelves put together on the move out so we wouldn't have to put them back together. They arrived completely taken apart. Instead of storing our goods on the truck as promised, they unpacked it in a warehouse and used that truck for another move. They tried to deliver some items here that were not even ours! Makes me wonder who got some of my things. Oh, forgot this. On move out day somebody drank approximately 11 bottles of beer out of my basement refrigerator. I actually rewarded the movers when they were done with beer that I wanted to get rid of instead of transporting. Upon opening the fridge I found 13 bottles of beer. I had 24. Found the empties later in my garbage can. Each box I open I find something else broken. DO NOT USE THEM IF YOU VALUE YOUR THINGS! If I had to move again I will drive a U-Haul myself. NEVER AGAIN

This was a horrible experience. I’ve hired movers for local moves in the past, but this was my first time moving long distance. It started off ok. Chris gave me a quote and was very friendly. I decided to go with the company specifically because it seemed like their customer service was decent. Like another reviewer, this was only until they get their money. When the pickup crew arrived, they told us it would be almost DOUBLE the price! Like what!?! The quote questioning must have been HORRIBLE to be that far off.. granted, I needed quite a few more boxes than originally stated so I knew it would be more, but double!? When I didn’t have any larger furniture added? That was a pretty horrible awakening. It was the last day to move out of the townhouse because they needed to delay a day from what was requested, so what other option did we have but to agree? The guys who packed the place up were nice and did their best to keep the cubic feet as tightly packed as possible to keep the price as low as they could. They were fast and efficient. Moving on, we agreed to the 30 days of storage that came with the service, but didn’t have an address right away. As soon as we did (2 weeks later), we gave them a call with a move in date. Emily was significantly less pleasant to work with. The communication between her and the dispatch crew was AWFUL. Since we were staying two hours away from the move in address, I requested that we know the delivery date as soon as possible so we could be sure to take the day off of work and be sure we had time to drive to the new address. Emily assured me I would have at least 3-4 days notice. I repeatedly followed up the closer and closer it got to the 30 day limit. She still didn’t have a date. We finally got a call after driving back 2 hours where we were currently staying with my sister because we didn’t have our furniture. Literally the day after we got back, they called and said they would be there in 2 days. What kind of notice is that!? The guy that gave the call was very rude with us and asked how we were paying for the rest even though we already paid, another display of the lack of communication. When the guys arrived, 60% of our boxes looked like they were run over by the truck before loading it, many things were broken due to the very rough handling, they complained when assembling the very little furniture we asked them to assemble since assembly was supposed to come with the moving service, and worst of all, while they were moving in the wooden bookshelf that was hand built by my partner’s deceased uncle, they significantly broke the bottom! That’s an irreplaceable item and zero compensation or even remorse was offered. There was no follow up call to check how everything went because they don’t give a crap.
