Easter is such a happy time of year that you may feel the urge to decorate, even if you aren't having any kind of celebration in your home. In addition to its religious implications, the holiday signifies the arrival of spring and invites you to decorate your home in bright and sunny tones. Here are a few ideas of how you could decorate your home for Easter.

Color Scheme

As mentioned above, Easter is a holiday that carries almost as many seasonal connotations as it does devotional. Generally, we see pastel colors used in much more abundance: baby blues, pinks, etc. However, the introduction of any bright yellows, blues, or greens is seasonally appropriate and will give your home a warm and festive feel.

Crafts

Many of the prevalent secular symbols of this holiday translate into excellent craft ideas. Especially if you have children (or if you are just young at heart), making Easter Bunnies, eggs, and chicks can make for a fun afternoon and lovely little decorations for your home. Check out the websites for tons of craft ideas that range from the simple to more complex, or just browse your local craft store to get ideas yourself!

Seasonal Ideas

With the warmer weather and the snow (in most areas) melted away, this is often the time of year you see the first plants starting to bloom. Plant some bulbs or gather some forsythia or other recently-flowering branches and make a centerpiece or a wreath for your door. Tulips and hyacinth are also pleasant and in-season, depending on where you live, not to mention pussy willows, which have the added benefit of being closely associated with the holiday anyway.

Faith-Based Decorations

Depending on your inclination, you may have symbols of your faith that you want to incorporate into your decorations. Crucifixes, lambs, fish, or anything else that reminds you of why Easter is important to you will not only give you something to adorn your home with; they'll also remind you of why you are celebrating this day in the first place.

Other Ideas

Some miscellaneous, festive ideas for your home:

  • Make Easter baskets to decorate your foyer or your tables.
  • Have Easter candy set out in dishes around your home.
  • Combine Easter grass (the shredded green plastic) with eggs to make a nest.
  • Pastel streamers and paper chains would be nice to wake up to on Easter morning.

Remember: if you think spring, you can't go wrong! Depending on whom you ask, Easter can seem cartoony or reverent when compared with other holidays. What spin you choose to put on it will dictate how your house looks at the end of decorating. One thing's for sure: the winter blues are behind you!
