One of the highlights of the Christmas season is decorating your home. Whether you like keeping it simple or going all out with your decorations, making your home more festive is a fun and creative way to bring out the full spirit of Christmas. Below you will find tips for decorating the inside and outside of your home, the dinner table, and the Christmas tree.

Inside the Home

There are many ways to make the inside of your home more festive. You can place ribbons or bows around items already in your household, like vases, candlesticks, chairs, or anything else you can think of. While green and red are the standard options for Christmas decorations, you can find ribbons in gold or silver to give your home that extra Christmas sparkle.

Try placing an electric candle in each window of your home. Unlike real candles, you won't have to worry about the fire hazard, and electric ones will last a lot longer. This is a simple way to give your home some elegance during the holiday season.

You can also make your home more Christmas-oriented by placing garland or silver tinsel along stair railings, shelves, windows, or the mantle. Another nice touch is to hang Christmas wreaths on your doors or any free wall space you might have. Of course, any figurines or other decorations you have involving Santa Claus, reindeer, elves, snowmen, or the nativity can be displayed around your home as you desire.

Outside the Home

Decorating the outside of your home for Christmas can be just as important as the inside. One of the most obvious ways to decorate the outside is to hang Christmas lights. There are many different types of lights available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. You can find single-stringed lights to put around the roof and windows or to hang from your trees. There are also netted Christmas lights which can be wrapped around small shrubs and bushes.

Aside from lights, there are many other ways to decorate the outside of your home. You can get large figurines of Santa Claus and other Christmas icons, and you could place big plastic candy canes along your driveway.

If you want to forgo the glitziness of Christmas lights and create a more spiritual look, consider putting up a nativity scene. Many stores offer large nativity scene sets that can easily be assembled and displayed on your front lawn.

The Christmas Dinner Table

Perhaps the easiest way to make your boring old table more appropriate for the holiday is to cover it with a Christmas-related tablecloth. This will give your regular table a fresh and festive look. As for the table settings, there are two main choices. You might want to go for an elegant look by using fine china, crystal, and silverware. Alternately, you might want to use a less formal look by going with dishes and platters adorned with Christmas patterns.

Once you have decided on how you want to set the table, you can focus on picking a centerpiece. You could keep it simple by filling a clear glass bowl with fruits like apples, grapes, and oranges. If want something a little more dramatic, arrange candles of different sizes and colors around the table. You could also create a centerpiece with sprigs of holly, pinecones, and other natural touches.

Decorating the Christmas Tree

There is no right or wrong way to decorate your Christmas tree. You can choose anything to wrap around it, such as tinsel, garland, Christmas lights, or even popcorn threaded onto some string. You can hang as many or as few ornaments as you like. As for the top of the tree, you can place a star or an angel on it. The most important thing about decorating your Christmas tree is to make it special to you and your family.

Though decorating your home may take some time, it is well worth the effort. What better way is there to capture the spirit of Christmas than by filling your home with Christmas decorations?
