Christmas is a time for celebrating. There are countless Christmas traditions that can be a part of your holiday, but you don't have to stick to the traditional. Incorporate new and creative ideas into your Christmas celebration.

Giving Back

Whether you spend your holiday at church or just hanging out with friends and family, you could try to give something back this Christmas. Christmas can be a time to celebrate your blessings but also to be a blessing to others. You could organize a food drive, volunteer at a soup kitchen on Christmas Day, or buy gifts for a family that can't afford their own. There are countless other ways that you could be a blessing to others. All you have to do is find a need that you can meet.

Christmas Parties

Get creative with your Christmas gatherings this year. Try to incorporate some of the following into your Christmas:

  • Come up with creative party games. You could have a sing-along competition or a gift-wrapping competition, or you could make up a Christmas trivia game.
  • Host a movie party, and watch some classic Christmas movies. If you really want to be offbeat, you could watch movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands.
  • You could host a Christmas all-nighter. Play games, eat snacks, and watch movies all through Christmas Eve.

Offbeat Decorations

Instead of using only traditional decorations, you could come up with your own Christmas-decorating theme. You could center your decorations around a TV show, movie, or character. This theme could be serious or funny. For example, you could have a Looney Tunes© Christmas theme.

You could also create your own decorations rather than buying them from the store. This could be an activity for your whole family to take part in. Not only will you save money, but your Christmas decorations are sure to be unique.

Offbeat Gift Ideas

Get creative when giving gifts this year. Here are some ideas for gifts and gift giving:

  • Gifts don't always have to be expensive. Simple, yet thoughtful, homemade gifts can be great. Many people will appreciate the time and effort you put into creating a unique gift for them.
  • You could do a Secret Santa gift exchange. For Secret Santa, everyone draws a name out a hat and buys a gift for that person. The secret is that you won't know who your gift is from until they give it to you.
  • White Elephant is a gift-giving game in which everyone buys one gift. You write numbers on slips of paper, one for each person playing, and then put them in a hat. Everyone draws a number and that is the order in which you play. The first person up chooses a gift and then unwraps it. Each person that follows can either steal a gift opened before or choose to open a new one. Each gift can only be stolen three times. The process continues until all the gifts are opened and everyone has one.

Incorporating new ideas into your Christmas celebration is a great way to shake things up. Not only will you make this Christmas unique, but you may create a few new family traditions along the way.
