As Thanksgiving approaches, images of turkeys, stuffing and pie start to swirl around in your mind -- or maybe not. If you're tired of pie or are just looking for a simple dessert to serve with your coffee and tea after dinner these simple and adorable cookies are a great idea.

All you need to turn plain old cookies into cute and colorful turkeys are:
  • Cookies - round flat cookies will work best!
  • Cookie icing (red, orange, yellow and white)
  • Miniature peanut butter cups
  • Toothpicks

Directions:

First you'll need to attach the peanut butter cup to the cookies to create the "body" of the turkey. Use a few drops of the cookie icing to stick the peanut butter cup onto the cookie close to the bottom.

Once the peanut butter cup is in place you can start to create the feather design. Cookie icing comes in convenient tubes so that you can use them like a piping bag to create your design. Starting with the color of your choice, pipe a row of the red cookie icing close to the peanut butter cup as if you were creating a rainbow. Then do the same with the orange and yellow and leave the white for the tips of the feathers.

Before the icing sets completely, take a clean toothpick and drag it through the rows of icing starting from the peanut butter cup and moving outward. This will create almost a marbled effect in the rows and make them look more like feathers.

TIP: Wipe off the toothpick before you start the next line.

Once your feathers are done, grab the white icing and pipe two eyes on the peanut butter cup and then use the orange icing to create a beak. You can additionally add to legs with the orange if you have room. Set the cookies onto a plate and allow the icing to set.

THAT'S IT! You're done! You now have adorable and festive cookie turkeys for Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
