$140 of non-refundable parking permits ...
tl;dr: AMS lies about interactions you've had and puts it into their system as gospel, and will do nothing beyond the bare minimum to help you with any situation of which they are, solely, the cause. Avoid this national chain. They will not help you, they do not care about you. I scheduled a move with this company for late February (on the day that we needed to be out of our old apartment), paid the deposit, purchased the parking permits necessary for their truck (AMS apparently requires this in Portland), and was scheduled, confirmed, and good to go. On the day of the move, during our move window, we receive a call saying they had to cancel because they overbooked - adding that they will refund our deposit (which we received). So, we contacted our previous property management company, moved our move-out day back, rented a uhaul, hired friends, and spent the next day moving everything this company was supposed to. It was ridiculous, very stressful, and I was pissed, but I understood. Overbookings happen. However, in order to book with AMS, we needed to get a temporary parking permit so that their truck can sit in front of our new apartment in our new neighborhood. To do this, we needed to contact the Portland Bureau of Transportation a few weeks prior, and purchase a temporary block of two parking spaces for $140. This money is not refundable. We were given a claim form via email after the cancellation for incurred damages because of their service. I put in a claim for the $140 thinking that we could get that refunded as it was, 100%, their requirement for booking, as well as their fault for its non-use. Added to this was a cost was not wishful-thinking request that I truly was never expecting to get back: A simple $100 for the trouble and anxiety and money we spent to deal with the problems they caused - as and acknowledgement that they absolutely screwed us over. I submit the form and a customer service rep (initials R.O.) contacts me back the next business day (great) and says that he will look into it. In our second call that day, he informs me that there was a note on our account that said that AMS had offered to move us "Later in the day around 6-7pm" and that we refused. I told him that that absolutely didn't happened, he said he would look further into it, and a week+ later I'm still waiting for a callback. I called today (10 days/6 business days later), and was told R.O. was busy, but that "They can't refund anything beyond the deposit". I asked for R.O. to call me back, and I am still waiting on that call We won't see this money. We paid $140 for this company to not move us. Down the drain, completely gone, nothing we can do. The lie is ridiculous: Why would we have declined a same-day but later move out? The alternative was that we had to change our move out day, get friends together, rent a uhaul, pay addtl pro-rated rent, and
