Microfiber is a synthetic fiber commonly used to make a number of commercial products, including furniture upholstery. While aesthetically similar to suede, microfiber is a much more affordable option for consumers. Unfortunately, it is also incredibly difficult to clean if you are not armed with the proper tools and know how.

Find out how to clean microfiber furniture step by step below.

Supplies

To clean your microfiber couch--or any other microfiber furniture--you will have to procure:
  • A spray bottle full of isopropyl alcohol
  • A new sponge
  • A clean scrub brush

TIP: To prevent the color of the sponge and scrub brush from rubbing off on your furniture, choose cleaning supplies that closest match the color of your microfiber.

Step one

Before you begin, you will want to open a window to avoid exposing yourself (or any nearby pets or children) to fumes from the isopropyl alcohol. It's not life threatening, but it's not pleasant.
  • Saturate the area you want to clean with the isopropyl alcohol spray
  • Rub vigorously and thoroughly with the soft side of your sponge
  • Switch out your dirty sponge for a clean one when necessary
  • Allow the area to dry
  • Repeat the process above until all the stains have been removed

Step two

The area you cleaned will be hard to the touch, this is normal and should not be cause for alarm.
  • Rub your scrub brush in a circular pattern on the dried surface of the microfiber
  • Repeat this process until all the hardened areas have been broken up
  • Smooth the brushed area of the now clean microfiber with your hand
