Moving is tiring. And if you're moving to an entirely different town or state, having to decide which service providers to use after your move is like adding insult to injury. How do you begin to decipher which businesses are worth your dime when you're new in town?

Don't fret. Here are some tips to help you compare services in your new town after a move. In no time, you'll know which doctors to visit, which plumbers to call and what pizza places to order from.

Research

Before you moved, you likely did a ton of research to choose your new hometown. Now that you've moved, you'll have to do a bit more research. Use the internet to visit rating and review sites like Yelp, Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau.

On those sites, you'll be able to read reviews from customers who have previously used those companies--which will give you better insight into their customer service, expertise and professionalism. From there, you should be able to decide if you'd like to use that particular company for the service you're looking for.

Make new friends

Networking and being social can be awkward at first--but when it comes to finding a new doctor, lawyer or accountant, word of mouth recommendations can be the easiest way. Think of who is in your social circles after a move and reach out to them for advice on local business and service providers. You might not realize the amount of information you can get from your neighbor over a cup of coffee!

Ask your realtor or real estate agent

If you used a realtor from the area of your new home town, he or she might be very knowledgeable about the different services and be able to provide you with recommendations. If your realtor can't recommend specific companies or providers, he or she can point you in the right direction to find what you're looking for.

Comparing your results

Unfortunately, for some services, there's really no way to tell if you're going to have a good experience until after they're done -- which can be too late. For substantial jobs like replacing a water heater or painting your house--if the contractor or provider you've used does a bad job, there's not much you can do about it to resolve your problem. You can take action by contacting consumer affairs and the Better Business Bureau if they do a substandard job.

Think about the aspects of the job that matter the most to you-- timeliness, customer service, professionalism--and see how each company or business stacks up against one another. It might not be the easiest task to do, but it can save you money and time later on down the road if you know who to call first when you have a problem.

Once you've moved to a new home and unpacked all your belongings, your adventure begins. Now is the time when you get to go out and explore your new home and eventually, you'll become the person people ask for advice.
