You've finished unpacking the last of your moving boxes and now it's finally time to truly enjoy your new home. Since you've spent all that time, energy and hard work setting up your house, it would be nice to invite others over to enjoy it as well. Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a housewarming party!

Housewarming parties are an excellent way for you to meet your new neighbors, get to know more about the community and make some new friends. Since you want to make a good first impression, there are many different creative ways to make housewarming invitations that really capture the spirit of the event.

Include treats with your invitation

Everyone loves gifts, so it's never a bad idea to include a few small tokens of kindness when you hand out housewarming invitations to your friends, neighbors and new acquaintances. Whether you choose to attach the invitation to a small bag of chocolates or present it with a plate of freshly baked cookies, going out of your way to welcome yourself to the neighborhood with a few treats will certainly leave a lasting impression. If you live in a close-knit community, making a good first impression will ensure that your neighbors will always lend a hand if you ever need it.

"Before and after" invitations

Another creative idea for housewarming invitations is to include a picture of your old home alongside your new one on the invitation. These are easy to create and you can use your own home printer. You can also have them professionally made and mailed out for you. Either way, they will appropriately introduce you to neighbors and announce your arrival in the community. It will also be a creative way of celebrating your new home and remembering your old one, as you move on to the next stage of your life.

Miniature moving boxes

Celebrate your move and symbolize "unpacking" your next life stage in a new home by sending out your housewarming invitations in small cardboard moving boxes. They're fairly simple to make:
  • Using a large sheet of brown card stock, cut out one-inch squares from each of the four corners of the sheet.
  • When you cut out the four corners, it should create flaps on each side of the sheet of card stock. Fold each of these flaps in towards the center and crease them.
  • Before closing the flaps and sealing the box, write your invitation on the middle square in the inside of the box. You may also print out the invitation information on a small sheet of paper and affix it to the box with glue or tape.
  • Fold the flaps in and seal up the box using a strip of packing tape or masking tape.
  • Adorn and personalize each box for the recipient. You can even write "FRAGILE" on the side in red marker to complete the effect.
