If your bathroom is starting to look a little dated, try some of these easy and inexpensive bathroom updates this weekend. You'll have an updated and stylish bathroom to enjoy the next time you indulge in a bubble bath.
Mirror, mirror on the wall
If you think that adding a mirror to your bathroom isn't an easy way to update your bathroom -- you're not thinking of the right kind of mirror. When the Evil Queen stares into her mirror and asks who is fairest one of all, do you think she's staring into a builder-grade medicine cabinet mirror? No. She's looking into a grand and ornate looking glass.
You can easily substitute the mirror in your bathroom for a decorative piece of reflective art on the wall. If your heart is set on sticking with the mirror that's already there, consider framing the mirror with crown molding. The frame will give it a nice built-in look and it will make give the sink area a touch of elegance.
Paint
A gallon of paint is pretty cheap and the options are endless when it comes to colors. If you're looking for an easy way to update your bathroom, a fresh coat of paint is a good place to start. Cool blues and pale greens can give your bathroom the spa-like feel you're looking for.
Lighting
Just like the mirror is an easy way to glam up your bathroom on a budget, so is switching up the lighting fixtures. Add some drama to your powder room with a "crystal" chandelier. Incorporate a bit of romance with some votives around your bathtub. Take a walk through a flea market or estate sale to snag a bargain chandelier and use some elbow grease to clean it up and add your own personal touch before adding it to the bathroom.
Furniture fixes
Do all your bathroom fixtures match? Could your bathroom cabinet stand a bit of paint or stain? Small changes to some of your larger fixtures can change the look of the entire bathroom. A coat of paint or stain on your bathroom cabinet could be all the updating you need. If your bathroom cabinet is just the way you like, maybe changing the knobs or drawer pulls is all you feel like doing this weekend.
Changing the knobs on your bathroom cabinet is even cheaper than you think--you'll probably only need to buy a few new knobs. If you were going to redo your kitchen, you'd have at least a dozen knobs to replace. Less cabinet doors, less cabinet knobs to replace. Simple and easy with a big ta-dah moment at the end!
Fabric and accessories
When was the last time you changed your shower curtain? Shower curtains are a focal point in your bathroom and can be the largest piece of art you have --use that to your advantage and hang a colorful shower curtain to brighten up the space. Once your new shower curtain is in place, hang a set of decorative coordinated hand towels for a cohesive look throughout the space. Voila! Brand new bathroom.
Any one of these tips would be a great place to start if you're itching to remodel your bathroom or if you've just moved and your current bathroom leaves much to be desired.
