A Certificate of Origin is a printed form used in international trade. Generally, the exporter of the item or items completes the form. It is then certified by an issuing body, declaring that the goods have been produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. The “origin” refers to the country where the item was made.
Some countries require this document to be notarized, while other countries do not. In some cases, a statement of origin printed on a company letterhead will be enough to get your goods shipped, but not always. In addition, specialized certificates may be in order if Canada has any free trade agreements with the country you wish to ship to (like the U.S or Mexico).
