In general, it is almost always cheaper to move yourself than to pay for professional movers. Movers can be considerably more expensive; however, they save you with convenience, and they can essentially take care of every part of the move. When you move yourself, you have every burden fall on you including packing, loading the vehicle, driving, and unpacking.
When you decide which option you want to choose, look at expense, the responsibility you want to handle, and when you are moving. Moving yourself does take a chunk of time that you simply might not have between work and home life. If you have to take time off work to pack and move, would that money have been saved by doing a full-service move? It comes down to your situation and your preference.
