If your couch moves while you sit on it, or accidentally bump into it, it can be a major pain. Luckily, there are ways to solve this issue quickly and easily.

Why You Want Your Couch to Stop Sliding

While a sliding couch is a pain, it may not seem like something that is important enough to fix. One problem when your couch starts sliding is it can scuff your hardwood or laminate floors. When your couch keeps sliding back and forth, it starts damaging your floors.

Another reason to stop your couch from sliding is that your couch will not be in line with the rest of your furniture. While it may not seem like a huge deal, this is something that may bother you and become noticeable to your guests. This will overall make the room look off.

Solutions To Stop Your Couch from Moving

Couch that slidesThere are quite a few solutions to help your couch from not sliding anymore.

Solution 1: Rubber Pads

There are rubber pads you can buy for the legs of your couch that will stop your couch from sliding. They are affordable, come in all different shapes, sizes, and price ranges so they will fit your needs.

One thing you will need to do before purchasing these rubber pads is measure the legs on the bottom of your couch so you know what size you will need. You can also trace the outline of them onto a piece of paper so you can get an exact match when you go to buy your pads.

We found the rubber pads at Home Depot and Lowe's locally, and you can also find them online at Amazon.

Solution 2: Furniture Grips

If you aren’t feeling the rubber pads for any reason, you also have the option to get furniture grips. Furniture grips are a great option because they come in different colors, textures, and styles.

Because texture grips offer different textures, your couch won’t slide anymore.

Solution 3: Place a rug under your couch

If you want to add a pop of color to your room, as well as tying in your room together, then you might consider buying an area rug for your living room. If you get a rug for your living room, then you can place your couch on it (even just the two front legs will do) and it will stop the couch from shifting.

Rugs also can have non-slip bottoms to help ensure that your furniture won’t be going anywhere. Alternatively, you can also purchase a non-slip mat the goes underneath the rug that also accomplishes the same thing.

Solution 4: Place Baby in a Corner

If you don’t have the money or want to purchase any extra items like a rug or furniture pads, then a free way to stop your couch from moving is to place is in the corner of the room. This would mean that your couch truly has nowhere to go, so it won’t slide anywhere. While that could make it look awkward, if your living room is small, then this could make the room look nice and spread out.

Tips

Overall, we recommend using a rug to help keep your couch in a secure position. Not only will your couch stay still, but rugs are a great way to tie a room together.

Here are some tips to follow when buying a rug:

  • Try to pull a secondary color from your couch or a throw pillow into your rug color
  • Keep texture in mind for your rug- textures can change the look of the room just as drastically as the color can
  • Patterns are a great choice to break up a monochromatic room, and solid colors are a great way to tie in a very busy room

Overall, choosing a rug is a personal choice that only you can decide.
