There are a lot of variables when it comes to packing up your belongings and moving out. Especially when it comes to boxes, because the size and quantity will depend greatly on the amount of belongings you’ll be wrapping up and packing for the move. Some people may only have the bare necessities in their apartment, while others may have rooms overflowing with knickknacks, décor, clothing and other miscellaneous items.

With that said, a two bedroom apartment will probably need approximately 20 medium sized boxes, 10-12 large boxes, and 5-10 extra large boxes. Your total box count can be anywhere from 35-50 boxes including smaller wardrobe boxes, if you choose to use those.

You can use our moving estimate weight calculator to get an idea of how much the most common household items weigh and cost, but you will still need to figure out just how many boxes you need, and what size.

Things to keep in mind:

  • The more you load into these big boxes, the heavier they will be when you need to actually lift and transport them
  • You may not want to comingle all of your belongings, but rather keep them segregated and organized for more efficient unpacking
  • Some of your items may require specialty boxes that are smaller or oddly shaped

You can find out more information on two bedroom apartment costs in our moving guides section – complete with information about hiring a moving company, weight estimates and cost estimates.
