Hi, thanks for visiting Movers.com and for coming to us with your moving-related questions and concerns! A typical lawnmower can weigh anywhere between 90-100 pounds, often depending on the type of lawnmower that you're moving. Lawnmowers, which can be either gas-powered or electric, are vital pieces of equipment for homeowners with a yard to maintain and moving your lawnmower safely and securely is important.

Unlike other appliances or equipment, lawnmowers can be difficult to move because they contain dangerous parts that can injury you during the move if you do not exercise caution.

Preparing your lawnmower for the move

  • Drain all gasoline from the lawnmower before moving. If you have a gas-powered lawnmower, you'll need to drain all of the gasoline from the tank before moving it. Gasoline is a highly combustible fluid and placing the lawnmower on the back of a moving truck with a tank full of gasoline is dangerous and should not be done, especially in the summer when the temperature in the back of a moving truck can sometimes reach triple digits. If you have an electric mower, you wo not have to worry about gasoline, however you should disconnect all wires and cords from the mower before moving and pack them separately.
  • Cover the lawnmower blades with protective covering. Obtain blade covers for the mower blades and place them on the blades before attempting to move it. If you do not have any blade covers, you may cover them with any kind of cloth such as old towels, dish rags or t-shirts.
  • Remove all attachments and pack separately. If there are any attachments on the lawnmower or any removable parts, make sure to remove them prior to moving it and pack and wrap them separately to keep them from being damaged during the move.
Moving your lawnmower
Luckily, lawnmowers are rather easy to move. Because they have wheels and you can push them, you'll be able to easily load the lawnmower onto the moving truck without any help.
