Driving a 12 foot Budget Rental Truck on I95 through Virginia and N.C. Do I need to stop at weigh stations? Thanks.

Hello, thank you for contacting Movers.com with your question about stopping at weigh stations!

Weigh stations
Normally, the rule is that rental trucks carrying household goods do not need to stop. Weigh stations keep highways safe from extremely heavy and unsafe trucks. Each state considers different weights dangerous, and some states have no current regulations on the matter.

Rules and regulations
North Carolina will not need you to stop but Virginia requires anything exceeding 7,501 pounds to pass through a station. As a 12 foot truck weighs 10,050 empty, you will definitely need to use weigh stations in that state. Budget, however, suggests that you use all weigh stations while driving their rental trucks.

I hope this is helpful. Thank you for visiting!
