Whether your move is small or large, long or short, Movers.com can recommend a moving service for you. If you're moving out of the country, start by getting a free quote on international moving services.

Finding an international moving company is probably one of the biggest obstacles you'll have to face when moving overseas. It is a complex process that requires attention to strict customs rules and licensing. You'll need a company with a Freight Forwarder Permit and a Federal Maritime Commission Number – you should make sure you have an in-depth conversation with your potential mover on what the company specializes in and what countries it has experience with in terms of moving people's goods.

What will it cost me?

No matter which way you look at it, an international move of any kind is going to cost you money. You're probably looking at somewhere between $2,000 and $6,000. Moving from the United States to India varies considerably in cost, and is usually based on the cubic feet of your belongings being shipped and your arrival time. You'll have to consider the value of your goods and decide whether or not it is worth the investment to ship. Some would rather sell everything and buy new items once they reach their new country, because it is sometimes much more cost-effective.

If you do decide to ship everything, here's a TIP: The roads in India are narrow, and some who have moved there say you are better off using a few smaller containers for your goods, 20-foot by 2-foot, for example, instead of one 40-foot container). When you get your estimates (we recommend at least three in order to get the best price available to you), make sure they include any customs fees and licensure.

Be sure to come back to Movers.com once you've made your move and review your experience here. Leave a comment and let us know if this information was helpful or not.
