Spread the word. DO NOT move or store with Arnoff of Poughkeepsie. They damaged over $5000 of our furniture/rug. They delivered our furniture after one year in CLIMATE CONTROLLED storage,(when I filed my dispute,the owner told me I was paying for TEMPERATURE CONTROL... which I wasn't aware of the difference) Our perfect wool rug was literally crumbling with moth and larvae infestation. The rug was the first thing to come out of the truck and the movers placed it on the hall floor. I immediately told them to carry it back outside BUT the "crumbs" of our carpet and the larvae attached has caused an ongoing moth issue in my BRAND NEW HOUSE! Anyone who has a moth issue knows that these pests multiply. I have been dealing with moths ever since and have found the pink threads from the rug they carried in months later. My sectional sofa that was shrink wrapped when it left us had to be replaced because the dirt or mold stains would not come out. My marble topped buffet was cracked. This is a two inch thick piece of marble. Not easily cracked. I have a Bernhardt Dining Room set and they cracked a frame of one of the chairs so badly that it can not be repaired and the chair can no longer be replaced,which means I have to get all new chairs. I had other pieces damaged,as well as the movers scratching and denting our brand new hardwood floors in several places. I signed a contract that gives the consumer a choice on their liability. But before I signed,I called and spoke to their representative because I was concerned about the $.60 per pound liability. She stated that that is ONLY IN TRANSIT...and further stated that it would be,for instance,if the truck rolled over. I recently received a check from them for $216 for all this damage. I paid $220 for storage each month with them and paid about $3000 for the moves. DON'T MOVE or STORE with them. Their liability basically means that they come get your furniture and can literally THROW it in a dirty,hot storage container and the consumer has NO RECOURSE!!! I plan on following through with the FMCSA and any and all other governmental agencies out there. I paid over $3000 for the moves,$2500 for storage and now I have about 5-6K in damages. I moved out of my Lower East Side apartment to a house my wife and I bought in Pine Bush, NY. It's a 2 hour trip from NYC, and we had a good amount of stuff we collected over the years. It was a great experience and I recommend them very highly. The people were all friendly and made the challenge of moving a breeze. They got right to work and didn't mess around.
