Worst moving company ever - bait and ...

Carey Moving and Storage scammed me out of $7,000. They hired someone off the street and paid them $10.00. They dropped all my stuff and broke everything and Kimberly Payne and Tracie Cunningham won't help. They won't respond and I e-mailed them. Please note: I paid this company $11,000. WORST EVER Moving Experience

Kim, the moving coordinator, visited my home prior to the move. She inquired about the items to be moved and determined a price, which was not to be exceeded, dependent on the actual hours of work. We discussed the services that Carey Moving offered which were not included in the estimated price given to me. We further discussed the actual details of the move including the steepness of my driveway, the size of the moving van, and that I had a piano to be moved. When she left, I felt that things were going well and that the move would be successful. On Moving Day, when the van arrived, the first problem was that the driver claimed he could NOT manage my driveway and would have to haul everything down to the bottom of the drive and load the van in the street!!!! No one was thrilled with that idea, so he attempted the driveway, backed into a propane tank and knocked out a tree. Witnessing how poorly that was handled, I realized that the new location may be even more of a problem for the driver. So we got in the car and drove over to the new location before the move even started! Keep in mind, the clock is TICKING!!! The movers had no idea what items were to be moved. They arrived with a furniture dolly that had a flat tire and had not been told about the piano. They had no gear ( ie. harnesses, back braces, gloves, etc.) with which to help them move the heavier items. The van was not large enough, nor was it equipped with a lift. In fact, from the awful noises and groans coming from the trucks transmission, it was well passed it's retirement age. Initially, the movers wrapped heavy blankets carefully around my furniture. That didn't last too long. I guess they ran out of blankets. The approved method of getting items through a door where it didn't fit was to push harder. Every doorway in my new house will need to be repainted. Finally, the move was over, and only one item had met it's end. It just happened to be an important piece of my dining room and arrived at my new house with out any legs. I had minimal insurance through Carey Moving and Storage, so they kindly offered to recommend a furniture repairman. I haven't inquired of Carey as to whether they will clean my carpet of the multitude of muddy shoe prints, but I'm pretty sure the answer is NO! As to the accuracy of the estimate....the way Carey Moving and Storage works is to give you a price, stating that it's the highest price and leading you to believe that the price may well be lower if the hours are fewer, but in the end, charging you the highest price. My price was lowered because I could prove that the hours were less than the movers claimed. Read more

We are grateful of this company and ...

The company was recommended by one of my friends and I am very happy that everything went so well. The staff was competent. They loaded and unloaded everything. But the highlight was the pricing - it's excellent. What we were offered was about $1,000 less than other companies. I would definitely recommend their service to those I know. Read more
