Small move from Chicago to New Jersey

I lost a lot of my things and furniture because of a pipe burst during of Chicago's cold winter days. I had 2 desks, a large mirror, and 3 large boxes of art supplies and artwork so my move was a small one. John called me immediately when I submitted a request for a quote. He listened to my situation and clearly explained the best option for me. Varricka was my coordinator and she was so responsive and checked in on me often. She kept me posted on shipping time frames. There was no real rush but she prioritized my move. The team who picked up my things in Chicago and the team who dropped off my things in New Jersey were very professional, responsive, and quick. Verraricka,David,and DJ were amazing! David and DJ were meticulous,professional,and took great care to ensure all packing was done to their high standards. It showed! We had no damage to our prized possessions and only two items we didn’t even expect to survive the trip were lightly damaged. Excellent move

CVL was awesome to work with,from the quote to the after move evaluation. Nate,the driver was excellent! He was professional and personable and made us feel confident in the move. The delivery had a hitch because the truck could not get in the driveway so they had to unload on U-Haul then deliver and the cost was minimal. They did a great job communicating along the way. Colonial Van Lines - Excellent and ...

I moved from California to Florida, and after doing my research and price comparisons, along with what each offered, I found that Colonial was the best price for all that they offered. Colonial Van Lines customer service stood out from the start!!! They were efficient, on time, packed up perfectly everything I had in a timely manner! They then delivered on time, and in 3 hours had everything unloaded with not one item damaged or broken! It was amazing and it was so much cheaper than using a pod and I didn't have to do the lifting! Highly recommend them!!!! Read more

Excellent Move Experience!

I had to relocate recently from Cleveland, OH to Charlotte, NC for a new career opportunity. Due to the time of year (summer) I was worried that the lump sum I was given by my employer wouldn't cover the move. A lot of the big names out there wanted well over 9k for a 1 bedroom apartment move... Thankfully Colonial came in well under that while offering the same full service move experience I was looking for. Colonial offers insurance which I ultimately purchased because I've had some bad moving experiences; this time last year, Allied was 3 weeks late and a lot of my furniture was damaged. Once bitten, twice shy. It turned out I didn't actually need the insurance. The movers packed my valuables up securely (boxes/blankets/crating) and they arrived in Charlotte in the same condition as they were when they left Cleveland. I was so relieved! The moving team was roughly a week late arriving in Charlotte BUT I was notified of the delay in a timely manner, kept informed and also compensated. Both the gentlemen that delivered were very kind and professional. They made sure everything was exactly where I wanted it before they left. On the whole, Colonial was attentive and helpful throughout the entire process. If I had a question, they had the answer and I greatly appreciate it. I'd definitely recommend them! Read more

Apartment move

Overall my experience with Colonial Van Lines was positive. My customer service representative was good and the team checked in with me frequently. The movers at both ends were polite and careful. I packed most of my boxes but they still had to pack pictures and all the mattresses. The only issue is that the price was significantly higher than the original estimate and the revised estimate. We had a great move with Colonial

We recently moved from NY to Wa with Colonial and it went well! Reading the reviews of every company I was ready to bid farewell to my stuff as I was sure it was going to be damaged during such a big move. But it went great! Nothing broke and nothing was lost. We moved a 1-bedroom apt, I did pack everything myself, except for a TV and furniture. Colonian worked with East Coast van lines on our move and I'm happy with the movers, they did a great job! We paid exactly what we agreed to, everything was done on time. Advice to fellow travelers: 1. Make sure the person booking the job is the one who is going to communicate with the company, there are different people responsible for different parts of the move. My husband booked it and then even though we changed the contact info to me, ppl kept calling him (there's a lot of logistics, I get it, but was a bit stressful) 2. When packing voluminous items like cushions, blankets, sweaters - use vacuum storage bags to deflate them. This way if something heavy lands on this box, it won't get crushed. 3. Make sure you (don't) need a shuttle both at pick-up and at the destination with your coordinator. If you don't know if the truck can make it to your place, make sure they find out. Good luck! WooHoo! Very Pleased!

Everyone at Colonial Movers was very professional - from office staff to gentleman(men) who did the moving. I was especially grateful to Alton Townsend, the actual mover. He had the knowledge of how to take apart and wrap my baby grand piano and, ultimately, how to re-assemble it. Initially, I thought I would have to use a separate company to do both parts of the job, which would have held up my use of the piano when it arrived at my house: I would have had to wait for the "re-assembler," and I couldn't be sure how long that would take. I don't know the name of the gentleman who assisted Alton in FL but, obviously, he was great as well. By the way, the friend (in FL) who was sending the piano also had nothing but praise for Alton. On Fri., 4/22, I received a call from Colonial letting me know my piano would arrive on Tues., 4/26, between 8a and 12 noon. Fast-forward to the delivery in NY: As mentioned, my original delivery date was Tues., 4/26/22. Then, Sat., 4/23, I received a call from Alton saying he'd "see me at 9." I thought he meant 9a on TUES., but no, he'd "see [me] tomorrow." I was jumping for joy, and wondered who was able to move up my delivery date! Still don't know who did that, but I had my precious piano several days earlier AND, as I said before, Alton and his assistant , John (not the same person who helped him in FL), were able to re-assemble, meaning I didn't have to wait for another person and was able to play my piano that same day. As important as all the above, I have to compliment the company for having staff working on a Sat. It took me 3 days of calling around to different movers/providers. I'd called several places that said on their websites that they were open on Sat., but when I called, they were not, and one place that said the person who could help me had left for the day - which meant I would have had to wait until MON. Didn't work for me, so I kept calling on Sat., and Nashena McKinney picked up and, as the say, "the rest is history." I thank everyone at Colonial, am appreciative of my early delivery date, and thank Alton so very much for taking such good care of "my baby" piano! Will certainly recommend Colonial and, if the opportunity arises, use them again. KUDOs to you guys! Read more

Excellent mover - highly recommend

Excellent move! Team of colonial van lines support kept me in the loop through the process. Moved my 85 year old mom with 85 years of fragile collectibles and glass shelved cabinets,complicated mirrored wall units etc. none of which she would part with. Great experience, despite the fact I ...

They were able to fit my short notice move in fairly quickly, including pack and load service, with furniture dis-assembly and re-assembly, for a lower price than anyone else. The best part is that they did this without sacrificing quality. To be honest, I'm still unpacking, but all of my breakable and delicate items have come through so far without a scratch blemish or chip. my cost came out a bit higher than expected, but I have a lot of books and that pushed my weight up almost 2000 pounds over the estimated weight. Awesome Interstate Moving Exxperience

I am so happy and pleased that I selected Colonial Van Lines for my first big Interstate move after having done some moving company research before the end of 2021. I was able to lock in the 2021 rates for my move in March 2022. Everyone I came in contact with - from the account manager and initial consultation for the estimate, the department manager who processed my down payment, the moving manager who adjusted my inventory list as needed and managed the communication with the actual moving team. Something that I thought would be extremely stressful and chaotic became an organized process with the 24/7 support from the Colonial Van Lines team. The actual move happened quite quickly too, loading was done in a very organized, caring and respectful way; the moving team manager walked me thru all steps in detail of the paperwork and inventory. To my surprise my stuff arrived sooner than I thought which made my move-in into temporary housing that much easier. Nothing was broken, nothing was missing, and the unloading crew was as good as the one loading. Moving experience

Overall I had a great moving experience with Colonial Van Lines. The only negative that I can think of is that the pickup was a little later than expected but the driver still started the move process within the timeframe window. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. All my stuff arrived quickly and not damaged! I have heard some horror stories from friends when moving and was nervous about this whole process but they exceeded my expectations! Little to no damage to any of my furniture too. Read more

Not only did they move our items from point A to point B, but they also shrink wrapped and padded all furniture and valuable items. I used Colonial Van Lines for a move from Maryland to Alabama. I had briefly moved from Pennsylvania to Maryland and had my belongings stored at two different homes. They picked everything up when they said they would and delivered two days before the quoted window was up. Elsie kept contact with me every step of the way. I moved from Tennesse to Connecticut recently through Colonial Van lines, and it was a very good experience for me. The person from AMILE AWAY subsidiary was very professional and he explained the billing details politely and he made sure I understood the invoice. Even though I packed my own goods, they wrapped the sectional couch and the bulky furniture really good and they came at the destination without a scratch. Long Distance 3BR Apartment to Storage ...

Our move from a 3 BR apartment with storage unit was successful and good value. Movers arrived within time window. There was some confusion concerning office's actual date for pickup and the delivery driver,but was corrected and understood to be still within the quoted 2 day window given. 2 movers arrived and completed load in reasonable amount of time and were enroute to drop off destination. No overages for weight. Weight estimated was correct. Delivery of items was quickly done and items were offloaded into storage in just a couple hours.
