Disappointed and Unresolved
I am very disappointed with our experience. We are a family of educators and we prioritize spending our dollars supporting brown and black business in the Bay. We recently moved an apartment from one location in Oakland to another location in Oakland (appx 3 miles apart). The movers arrived hours late. The moving team included 2 teenagers (junior and senior in HS) and 1 adult. The teenagers worked as well as they could but they under the supervision of an ineffective adult supervisor. This move took over 15 hours! It was so badthat they had to come back the next day to finish. I took off a day of work to complete this and had to rearrange my next day- due to waiting for them to call to inform me of when they would be able to deliver the rest of my belongings. This was startling because again,we only moved a 2 bedroom apartment with a Peloton Bike. Only 1 bedroom was actually moved. Despite them being late AND taking a really long time to move... we continued to be nice,offer water and even help move. Yes,my family helped move items into the truck from the first location and we also moved items into the storage locker as well as into the new apartment. My family consists of my partner,my teenage son and myself. With all of that,you can imagine how upset I was when I saw that so many of my things were damaged. My dresser has a hole in the top of it. My second dresser is leaning because of a broken leg. I had a pair of bookcases. One of them was completely broken and now neither can be used. I really was floored when the actual bill came back double what they quoted. Their response was that this was due to us having a flight of stairs that we told them about in our preliminary conversation. We also let them know that we needed to add a stop to storage and that it closed at 10p. We knew there would be an extra charge for that stop. They did not inform us of any additional change in amount. I was transparent in the closeout of the moving service by telling the movers that I was disappointed with the amount of time taken to move AND about the treatment of our furniture. Their response was to call Jeremiah and gave me his phone #. I first called and texted Julia because she was our first point of contact. When she didn't respond,I called and spoke to Jeremiah and he assured me that if I paid the total amount... that he would speak to someone that following morning to discuss how they can financially fix the problems incurred by their movers. At the end of the call,he reassured me again that if I paid in total,that he would be able to refund back to me the amount owed. I took him by his word... esp since there were so many positive reviews about the company on Yelp. When Jeremiah did call,I was in a work meeting. I called back
