One of the WORST mistakes I have EVER ...

One of the WORST mistakes I have EVER made in my life. I lay awake at night wishing that I had selected another company, any company, other than Golden Bay to pack our U-haul. Our experience with Golden Bay was marked not just by disorganization and theft, but also, somehow, by an act of senseless cruelty that we are still struggling to understand. It went like this: the movers arrived early, I had to rush from the storage unit to the apartment to meet them. When I got there, English was *extremely* limited, to the point where communication was an issue, and not a small one. Worse, they couldn't communicate with each other either; one spoke Russian, the other two Spanish.  The move was chaotic and marked by communication problems. For instance, several bags of trash somehow made it onto the truck. What didn't make it onto the truck, I discovered when I reached my destination, was my $370 Dyson heater, my jugs of emergency water, or, critically, the legs to my partner's grandmother's 100 year old jewelry box, her most prized possession. The same legs that I had specifically asked the foreman (the guy with the slicked back hair, goatee, and gold jewelry - pictured below, picking his nose) to specifically protect. Interestingly, he was the same guy who asked me if my Dyson should come. Also the same guy who asked me if my jugs of emergency water should come. Also the same guy I saw out by their van who looked real surprised and sketchy and shut the door real quick when I turned the corner. Also the only guy of the three who wouldn't look me in the eye when I shook his hand and gave him his tip. The same guy, I'm now remembering, who called me "perro", dog, during the move. I thought "Doesn't that mean dog? Surely not." I was exhausted on days without sleep and distracted by details, I missed all the red flags.  I of course called them when I discovered the issue. Turns out: they don't even have voicemail.When I finally got them, they, of course, did not care at all. Basically shrugged and told me I could file a claim. I thought these people were legitimate because they appear to have five-star reviews on Yelp and Google.By chance, my friend who works in the moving industry called me to chat the day after my move. I told him my story. "Golden Bay??"  he said "they're the DREGS! Literal felons." Awesome. I don't know how they appear to have such high reviews; I can only assume some sort of fraud/manipulation. These people drove a dagger into the heart of the most innocent person I know. For no reason. Literal monsters. Stay far, far, far away, please. Read more
