Beware - they'll take your deposit and ...

I posted for movers on Thumbtack app Saturday morning. Saturday this moving company responded to me and said they had availability all day Sunday and part of the day Monday (afternoon.) They requested a deposit to "get you on schedule." I paid the deposit at 9:15pm Saturday. Sunday at 8:05 am, I asked when we would be scheduled. 8:52am they said they didn't have a time yet, but it was on [for Monday] and it will be "later in the day." I did not hear anything for the rest of the day. I texted again at 7:45am the day of the supposed move asking for a time. They responded at 7:48a, "I will let you know as soon as I hear back from the team, when they get to their first job." At 12:19 in the AFTERNOON, I texted again asking if I could get a time or if I should find another option. They responded to me to "please be patient." I was very polite in our interactions, and this rude and dismissive text sent me over the edge. The company proceeded to call me, and BLAME ME over the phone that it was my fault I was not scheduled yet, and then additionally told me that they were moving a commercial property in the morning (a church) and it was taking longer than they thought. Then told me that they weren't going to give me a time because then (get this!) I would expect them to be there. BEWARE of these scammers. I should've known better when paying a deposit via venmo. I lost the deposit, but I can only imagine how crappy their moving services are if they can't even schedule a paying customer a window of time when they'd be there. I ended up going with 3 Men and a Truck. More expensive, but legit and GET THIS, they gave me a window of time the second I paid the deposit! Read more
