Two Weeks Late, did not reassemble ...

We signed a contract with New City Moving in May 2021 to pack and ship all our belongings for a move across the country. They agreed to disassemble and reassemble large furniture as needed. New City Moving picked up our items on June 23 with an agreed delivery date of June 30. A few days after they picked up the items, New City Moving called to let us know they could not make the June 30 delivery date. They said they would let us know when they would be able to reschedule delivery. The contract said they had a "standard delivery window" of 3-10 days after the scheduled delivery date, after which they would be liable for additional expenses related to the move. After another week, they called to say they didn't know when they'd be able to deliver, and that all future correspondence would be through their lawyer. The lawyer then said on the phone that they actually had 21 days to deliver, and then on a later email said they had 30 days to deliver. They said the signed contract was meaningless. The items were eventually delivered on July 13, by a subcontracted third-party vendor, who was not contracted to reassemble our disassembled furniture. We had to stay in a hotel for more than a week while we waited for our bed and clothes and other items, and New City Moving refused to reimburse us, despite being two weeks late. They also never actually communicated the delivery date to us; the subcontractor called the night before delivery to arrange delivery. New City Moving said this was all due to a "driver shortage" but never explained how a "driver shortage" nullified their contractual obligations to us, or offered to compensate us for their failure to deliver on time. I had a great time with these movers

I moved from Lakeview to Logan Square last month and even though it was a pretty small move the guys at New City were super cool. I got a quote from one of the bigger places and they sort of made it seem like my move was too small to be worth their time, so that was kind of a bummer, but then new city was so easy to work with and was happy to move my studio. My team, Fernando and Rico, were also really funny and great to work with. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them too. Read more
