Missing/Lost items in shipment
I would NOT recommend this company if you want your shipment items to be delivered in full. I hired Ship Smart for a small,1-bedroom apartment move (1700 lbs) from Seattle to Los Angeles area in October 2019. Two dressers / storage carts containing most of my summer clothes (casual,business,evening apparel) were lost during the shipment. Ship Smart does not have and/or did not follow the most basic operating procedures that any professional shipping company should have in-place to accurately track the inventory list. They did not keep full and accurate documentation of items from pickup location throughout the storage,packing,transport,unpacking,and delivery process. The inventory list that I signed on pickup day in Seattle was not available to the delivery crew in Los Angeles,who created a new inventory list when they received the shipment at their warehouse. Due to this gross negligence,Ship Smart did not even notice the missing items during the 4-week period while they had custody of my shipment until I reported the missing items on the delivery day. In their last communication on 6/4/2020,they claimed they were "waiting on another consignee to unpack their shipment to see if the missing dressers may have been accidentally included in that shipment". It has now been more than 13 months since my partial shipment was delivered (11/25/2019). ShipSmart was not able to locate the missing items and has not communicated with me since June 2020. Please avoid Ship Smart
Please learn from my mistake and do not use or support Ship Smart. I moved cross country from CA to NH. Ship Smart was recommended to me as an alternative to traditional moving companies. I called Ship Smart and told them I was moving and was looking for someone to pick up my stuff and have it arrive at my new location 2 weeks later. They said that matches their deferred shipping options which takes 2 weeks, and at most 3 weeks, to arrive at the final location.The price was lower than other shipping companies due to their shipping process so I scheduled my move with Ship Smart. June 29 - Got a call saying that the insurance level I chose was too high for my bed, requiring me to pay them to build a crate for it and pay for “white glove delivery” service which includes $100 per flight of stairs. This increased my estimate by $800. July 23rd - Stuff was picked up, movers were great July 27th - I call Ship Smart to get a delivery estimate. Ship Smart says I should expect a call Monday to schedule delivery. August 3rd - No call from Ship Smart. I call Ship Smart. They say it will take a week longer and I should expect a call Monday to schedule delivery. August 10th - No call from Ship Smart. August 11th - I call Ship Smart. They say they are backed up and my items are sitting in a warehouse in CA still. They say they will call me back to give me an update. No call back. August 12th - I call Ship Smart. They say my stuff will be loaded by latest this Friday and I should expect a call by the end of day Friday. August 14th - No call from Ship Smart. I call Ship Smart. They say my stuff will be loaded Tuesday and I will get a call from them. It is now 3 ½ weeks since my stuff was picked up and my stuff is still sitting in a warehouse in CA. Week after week my shipment is delayed with no end in sight. Since my work belongings are there, I’ve had to rebuy multiple items totalling in the $1,000-2,000 range. Ship Smart refuses to discount me for being late because the contracts are vague enough that they are not held responsible for anything. Their excuse is the station in CA is very backed up, summer is their busiest season and it was my fault for choosing Ship Smart. Nobody communicated any of this to me when booking even though they said they were aware of it, I would have gone with a different service or paid for an exact delivery date (something I wasn’t even offered at the point of sale). Even more jarring is the fact that Ship Smart says it is my fault my stuff is late because I chose to use Ship Smart and listened to their estimated 2-3 week delivery, what kind of company says it’s your fault for choosing them that your service is terrible? There has been zero communication or followup from Ship Smart and all of the effort was on my end. Very good to work with. Pricing was right on the money and so was the delivery quote. They kept us updated as to where the shipment was and when it was recieved. Great communications!!!!!
