We were kinda worried about finding a good moving company that could handle our big stuff like the grand piano and huge grill. But, these guys made it look easy! They came prepared with the right wrapping for everything. Plus, they were super nice and even helped us with our bags and loading up the car. American Knights subcontracted by ...

Do not use American Knights nor International Van Lines if you value your belongings. This company was subcontracted by IVL without our knowledge. It was an in state move with 3 months of what was supposed to be climate controlled storage. Twenty eight pieces of furniture were delivered damaged in transit and/or storage. Items were water damaged, heat damaged, functionally damaged, scratched, torn or totally destroyed. The claims process took two months and resulted in a payment offer of $404 based on $.60 per pound per item. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY If I could give this company zero or negative stars, I would. I cannot even begin to describe the lack of care with which my items were treated. I moved from Columbus Ohio to Houston Texas. I was originally quoted roughly 1800 dollars for my move. I was only moving a one bedroom apartment, and did not even move my bed or dining table. By the time all of the hidden fees were added, my move turned into 2500 dollars, which was 700 more than I was originally quoted. There was a stair fee, a long carry fee, a fee for needing a shuttle because the semi couldn't get close enough. No one informed me of any of those fees up front. I asked specifically about my leather couch, tv stand, and jewelry armoire because I wasn't sure how they needed to be packed. I was told that I could just wrap them myself and that the movers would blanket the ouch and tv stand without a charge. Upon arriving, I was told that my couch would have to be packed specially which would be an extra fee, as well as my tv stand and jewelry armoire. All things that I described in detail and asked specifically about ahead of time. I also spoke about how long they thought it would take to deliver my items, and every time that I asked (i asked every step of the way) I was told it should be there by the end of the next week. Fast forward two weeks, and I'm across the country with no stuff. I called and emailed, but did not even get an answer or call back for several days. When i finally did, they told me it would be a few more days. Then a few more days. The date kept getting pushed back, and it took 20 days for my stuff to arrive. When my belongings finally arrived, I was horrified. Over half of the boxes were damaged, dented, or crushed in some way. My tv stand (which I paid extra for the movers to pack themselves) was broken and the drawers would not open. My jewelry armoire (which again, I paid for the movers to pack themselves) was completely broken and had to be zip tied just so I could stand it up. A box that contained expensive glass vases was completely crushed, resulting in a pile of shattered glass upon opening it. And the biggest thing, an extra large box which was clearly marked as fragile was dented in several places. inside the box was a statue that I had sculpted myself for my senior thesis (i just graduated with a BFA) The statue is damaged beyond repair, and it is impossible to replace as it was an original piece of art. I specifically spoke with the company several times about the best way to pack and transport it, and I was assured that if I padded it in a box and marked it that it would arrive safely. I cannot explain how upset I am. So many things that were broken were important to me, and after being assured that my belongings would be treated with care, I cannot help but feel lied to after seeing the condition of my boxes. When I recently moved I ran into a small problem with the movers that I had arranged and they fell through. It was the 1st, noon and every place I called was booked. After the panic subsided, I luckily stumbled upon American Knights Moving and Storage and thank god. I was concerned at first because they were a little pricey but they had movers there within the hour and when it was all said and done it was worth every penny.
