A great start to starting over

I reached out to american van lines after reading the reviews on google I have never used yelp for advice but did read several reviews that were favorable. The person who coordinated my move was pleasant and very knowledgeable and also lent an understanding ear to the troubles of my recent divorce. The prices I was quoted went up a bit, but that was to be expected, its hard to know how much stuff you really have sometimes, but it was certainly not unreasonable. The movers did a great job also and had my belongings to my new apartment before I arrived and it was all in one piece. I would recommend this company to anyone who asked

American Van Lines - Great

American Van Lines made the move of my parents from Connecticut to South Carolina seamless!!! I received quotes from five different moving companies (all pretty much the same price) but, the service from the customer service team at AVL shined. My worries about all of the move were completely washed away. The team that packed my parents apartment in Connecticut were the best and two of them moved the goods into my garage upon arrival in South Carolina. Many thanks to customer service, Angie, Jennifer and Victoria and movers Patrick and Ed. Great job!!!

Wonderful Service

American Van Lines Inc. just handled my move on 11/17/16. They were prompt, professional, and friendly throughout the entire process. I've used this company two other times in the past and wouldn't use anyone else. It was a great relief to me to know that I had a company I could call and rely on for professional moving services. My contact person was in excellent with communication the entire way through the process. On the day of the move my movers were prompt, efficient, friendly, and very hard working. All of my belongings were moved with care and arrived in the same condition that they were in before the move. I would highly recommend this company for any your moving needs.

Incompetent and Unethical

American Van LinesOverall synopsis: Never hire this company. They are slimy, ineffective, poorly managed, horrifically run. They only “make it right” if you agree to keep their failings private and allow them to prey on others. When you read reviews saying that AVL has “made it right,” please understand that in order for you to get any money back, you must sign away your first amendment rights by signing a boiler plate contract. Payment for silence and not writing negative reviews is how this company thinks “making it right” works. For me, buying my silence does not make it right. It would be easy to write a thesis length paper raging about the failures of this company. For the sake of succinct reporting, I have elected this format. In the interest of full disclosure regarding how horrible American Van Lines is as a moving company, the following synopsis covers the more glaring problems. Deceitful contracting practices, poor customer service, subcontracted my move to horror show company, non-professional movers (who looked like criminals) picked up off the street for "extra muscle," driver demanded cash for payment, specialized crating services contracted incorrectly, twice, over 24 hours late for pickup, took two days, over 48 hours late for delivery, took two days--I had to HIRE MY OWN MOVERS to unload the truck!! Boxes smashed, instructions ignored, no care taken with furniture, and the very worst? Customer service tried to "make it right" by demanding my silence online, in public etc. They offered to "make it right" by demanding I waive my first amendment rights.

Bad communication.

Everything was fine until we got to Nebraska, they did not tell us when they would be here. If they had given us any kind of warning we would have met them here instead they got here before us by about two hours. They ended up just throwing, I had my sofa in the kitchen and my kitchen stuff in the living room. you couldn't walk anywhere. And I was supposed to be here so I could direct them where I;'d like things put. The problem was i am not young and I do not have the back that I needed to be hauling the boxes around the house so I am not happy with them just throwing everything wherever they could find a spot to throw it, well they didn't throw it, place it. It is all because they did not call and say, we are two hours away, we're gonna be there on this date, around this time. if we had know any of that we would have had one of us leave our original location to meet them.

They did everything as planned.

It was good. They did everything as planned. they picked up on time and delivered on time and everything came back safely. It was fine.

I was not very happy with the ...

The experience with the moving company was that I was not very happy. It looks like they threw a lot of my stuff around. All my bins were crushed. Some stuff inside them were broken. I'm missing a lawn chair. I think I'm also missing two bins.

They were a day late and broke a lot ...

They said it was gonna on Sunday to pick it up then they came the next day and were late. ...When they came to bring my stuff to Florida, I requested a date, they came like five days later. ...All the boxes were open ... They broke a lot of stuff, so I wasn't happy with them.

Professional, courteous, and quick.

It was fine. They were professional, courteous, quick and dropped it off on time. It was great. Nothing was damaged.

This issue is that he charged me extra ...

The issue is that he charged me extra, which is unfair. He charged $240 extra. I don't think it's fair that you charged that much extra. That was my experience. I'm not happy about it.

The movers were fast and took care of ...

They were pretty fast in moving and pretty much took care of everything. It was good customer service as well.

There were some extra charges that we ...

They gave us mixed information. They gave us one quote over the phone that it was gonna be this amount of money from this address to this address and ultimately it came out to be an hour and a half more that we paid for, which we didn't really understand. They didn't make clear to us that the one hour travel time included the time from them coming from their facility to our house. They made it seem like that hour travel time included the distance from my house to the new house that I was moving to. They really weren't trying to help out.

It was horrible

It was every bit as horrible as the worst review I ever read. I figured people are crazy when they write reviews, its all negative stuff, it can't be that bad. It was ridiculous and horrible. It was a day late even though I was called that day saying your movers will be there in two hours. It was 24 hours, not two hours. The only item that was of value, they broke. They broke my father's antique dresser. They clearly did not know how to handle a piece of furniture. I did not opt for the additional insurance, because quite frankly this piece has been moved so many times and has never been damaged. It's a 70 year old piece of furniture. I figured, okay, they're wrapping it in a blanket, what could happen to it? They snapped off the side of the top. They also cracked a chair. The chair has less value, but the dresser was quite valuable.

Absolutely perfect movers

They were absolutely perfect. I was surprised because I've had such bad luck, but they were very good. They were extremely efficient and kind, very friendly. The price was extremely competitive but they were very good and it was lower than I anticipated. They also did very well with the packing and the wrapping, they were quite thorough. They arrived on-time and delivered my items on-time too. I would highly recommend them. They had me itemize the items that I had and they sent me a quote and then stuck to that quote.

Successful moving experience

They were prompt, the move initially was larger than they expected it to be, but they banded together with their team and did everything and overall it was a much larger move and they got us here, got everything in -- it cost us a few extra bucks -- but other than that, it was fine. Packing and wrapping services were fine. What I did was just order boxes and other things, so that was provided, and when the movers came in they had extra boxes and wrapping materials and they went ahead in their processes and everything was fine. Nothing was broken during the move except for a window when they were leaving and coming down the stairs, but the insurance company went through the movers and their insurance company came out and fixed it. I would recommend them to my friends and family and tell them that the move was fine. You hear so many horror stories about these things, but this one was actually okay. The pricing was fine, of course they came out and said that the pricing they provided was based on X and the move was going to take more than that, and it did cost me more than that, but I would have expected that from any other moving company I would have chosen.

Everything arrived safely

Movers were good. Everything arrived pretty much intact. A couple of items got misplaced and they made sure all that was delivered by an independent carrier. Everything arrived as promised and the price was as committed to by the initial commitment. I received all the services that I requested. Packing was done to my satisfaction. There was no breakage. Everything arrived intact, so it was adequate. The crew was very good, very friendly, very professional. I would recommend them.

Honest movers

They did a great job. What they said they were gonna do, they did. The pricing was reasonable. A couple of things were damaged but nothing that was too bad. They were really good. They were a good company and they were honest.

Not a good experience

They changed the price multiple times and changed it after they had the shipment which is against government regulations. They were supposed to tell us 48 hours before delivery and they had a very bad attitude.
