Couldn't even make it past the quote ...

I received a card for this company from the apt complex that I'm moving to. This is the first move that I've had since I bought my home 10 years ago, and I couldn't remember the name of the company that I used before that did an excellent job in a short period of time. My time is important to me which is why I opt to pay professional movers to do it. I called C.C. Associated Movers today to get pricing for a 4-man team. 2 men would take a lot longer than 4 men to do the same job. I expect to pay more for 4 versus 2 but the shorter time frame tends to make that even out total cost wise. I don't want to take the whole day to do something that I've experienced take no more than 4 hours to do. The person I spoke with today told me that 3-4 hours would not be worth it for some of his men to drive to the other side of town to move me near their side of town. I've moved to 2 different states and used movers both times, so for a company to express concern to a potential customer regarding what his men will want to do distance-wise based on how much HE is paying them concerned me. This made me think that he has to try to convince his people to show up for work or convince them to do moves to/from various sides of the metro area. Note: this is a local move; not inter-city or interstate. Because of his concern about his men wanting to work a possibly short job, he quoted me $218/hour plus a $218 trip charge. Where did he think they were going???? It doesn't cost me $200 to make the commute roundtrip to drive my SUV home 2 states away and that is a 6 hour drive!!! He told me that he is trying to work with me, but I immediately lost interest based on his comments. He quickly told me that their company has all of these 5-star reviews, and my feeling is that they could've probably gotten a 5-star review from me had they even managed to get my business in the first place. I don't have time to work with temperamental employees. I don't do it in my own business and definitely won't do so for a company that I'm paying to perform a service. I feel like I would have to be managing his employees and some of their attitudes the entire time versus tying up the things I need to for this move. If he is worried about what his people will want to do, I'm definitely worried about it too and sure won't be parting with $1,000+ and my peace of mind to do it. Some people may leave that up to chance, but I'd rather not. Hopefully there are many others that have a different experience and can keep giving them the positive reviews that they are so proud of. My experience was not positive and I want people to get the full picture from quote to completed move since the whole overall experience is important when dealing with something as stressful as a move.
