Beware the Bait and Switch, ...

I hired Fry Wagner Systems to pack and move a number of pre-packed boxes and other household goods from Arnold, Mo to California. Fry Wagner offered a service to pack the goods into a tote and deliver the tote to California in eight days. I used this service since I did not have the resources in Missouri to handle further packing and shipping the stuff. Additionally the service provided a specific date for delivery in California instead of its standard 19 day window. Having as specific date instead of a two and half week window is important since I travel for business and not always in California for more than a few days at a time. This was a very expensive option. Initially, Fry Wagner sent me a contract that had a higher amount marked than the amount on the quote for the pack and move. The contract was signed only after Fry Wagner agreed to the amount of the initial quote. Almost immediately, Fry Wagner informed me that the eight day delivery schedule originally promised was not convenient for it or United Van Lines. The delivery date then became ten days from pick-up. The shipment arrived in California on the tenth day after pick-up. When the movers opened the tote, we were very surprised at the condition of the contents of the tote. Even the United Van Lines employees in California said that the packing job was incompetent. It looked like all of my personal items were just thrown into the tote. As an example of Fry Wagner’s incompetence, a mirror box was packed sideways with other boxes stacked on top it. I used my credit card to pay for the move instead of a cashier’s check which was a big mistake. Almost two months after the delivery and without notice or explanation, United Van Lines tried to charge my credit card an additional $205 for the move. I had to put a fraud alert on my credit card to stop the payment. More hassles as I had to wait for the bank to set-up a new account and send me a new credit card. Based on my experience, I recommend never use Fry Wagner or United Van Lines for a move. There’s definitely a bait and switch aspect to the way Fry Wagner and United Van Lines do business. Furthermore, United Van Lines tried to fraudulently charge me an amount above the agreed contract price twice; and its packing service was incompetent. If you hire Fry Wagner and United Van Lines for your move be prepared for administrative hassles and trashed goods. There are other more competent movers in the St. Louis area than Fry Wagner and United Van Lines. I strongly suggest using another company than Fry Wagner and United Van Lines. Fry-Wagner and United Van Lines are just despicable business people and incompetent movers. Beware, you will get screwed.

Pretty good under the circumstances

The building we lived in was burned and the insurance company hired this company to move us out. Under the said circumstances they have performed well. They were good on time, worked fast and none of the furniture got damaged in the process. I am pleased with what the movers have done.

Move

Thought the move went fine. The packers came after the movers due to bad / lack of directions. but once everyone was there the move got done. Took a couple extra hours I think because of the travel issue.
