Movers Beware!

Before they ever picked up our furniture they changed the original estimate from about $7800 to almost $9500, and then after our furniture was loaded it was even more, almost $13000 because we had too many bulky items. Items they knew about ahead of time. This company was late picking up my furniture in Oregon and we were supposed to have received it in Florida on September 24th. They claimed it was on the road or it still might be in storage in Oregon. They couldn't seem to find it and when pressured all the customer support folks do is blame their dispatch. They would not call back when they say they will and they ignored voice messages. They don't seem to care about their customers. I am convinced that when their lips are moving they are lying. Their customer support guy "Brad" even told me he wouldn't use his company after the issues we've had with them. I told them I was ready to file a theft report when they finally found our furniture and after I got a phone number for the delivery driver I got a date for delivery. Our furniture finally got to us but very late. They showed up at 5:30 in the evening on October 13 and were gone by 11:00 that night. When they left they told us they would be back the next morning to assemble the items and take items from the garage, where they unloaded them to, and put them in the correct rooms. They didn't have time that night to put everything together and in the rooms they were supposed to. Well guess what? They never showed back up. We were stuck moving items and assembling our own beds, tables and dressers, as well as putting our washer in the laundry room. They even lost parts for our custom made table. Of course there were damaged items! The big screen TV was DOA. dining room chairs had broken spindles, the dryer was damaged and a computer desk was broken beyond repair. When contacted about the damages they gave me a phone number and a website for a company that was "handling our claims". This company told me that they had severed all ties with Northern Van Lines. When I called Northern back and finally got ahold of someone, they told me they had forgot about that and were now handling all claims in house. Even though I have asked many times for a contact person and number for their claims department, I have never got anything back. The last thing I heard was "be patient". Well 3 months is plenty patient and when I sent an email requesting information on my claim I never heard a word. On 1-21-13 I called and after trying every number I had for Northern finally got a live body. Guess what? Now I am told that Northern was filing bankruptcy and going out of business and so would not be paying my claim. Do I believe them? NO! Their lips are moving and they are lying. The best thing to come out of this is the fact that I was able to put the $5000 delivery charge on my credit card and then I disputed it. The credit card

They were not very friendly

The move was not at all good as the movers charged me more when we arrived at the destination, which was unexpected and they even asked me to pay them by money order, which I wish I was notified about at the beginning. Apart from that my furniture set was broken and some of my items were missing. Overall, it was a horrible experience.

Deplorable customer service

I had a very bad experience with this company. They took my entire payment before my move, and they left our stuff at their storage unit. So we hired another company to pick-up and unload our stuff at our destination. They were not at all helpful and they were very rude. I am unhappy and would never recommend their services.

The movers didn't show up

The movers ddn't show up and they didn't inform me beforehand either. I had to cancel my ticket and as it was at the very last minute, it caused a lot of inconvenience to me.

Terrible experience

The move took a very long time and they didn't bother to inform me. They don't respond to my calls and I still have some of my belongings missing. The worst part is that they are refusing to reimburse me.

Honest and up-front service

As part of the planning for my move, I was in the process of collecting quotes from various moving companies. While other companies gave me sketchy details, this company sent its representative to my home to do an in-person survey. I liked it because they were upfront about everything and appeared trustworthy. I immediately booked them to move my home. The move was completed in a timely fashion. I am very much satisfied with their services and would definitely like to recommend them to my friends and family.

Horrible experience

We didn't get our furniture for over a month. They charged us more and wouldn't unload the truck at the destination until we paid them. Our belongings that are worth about $1,000 were stolen from us. This company is one of the most unprofessional companies I've ever seen.

Are you kidding?

At each end the movers were great, considerate and polite. The company, however... we scheduled a pick up for Tuesday 6/26 with a verbal guarantee - your things will be there by Wednesday. This Tuesday 7/24 the things finally arrived. 4 weeks later, yes that is FOUR WEEKS LATER. What??? Our biggest complaint is that they would not communicate with us. We left numerous messages with every phone number we could find. Never received return call. We didn't even know how much to make the cashiers check out for (and there were two weeks that we weren't available for delivery and could have made arrangements but didn't have the amount. We will not be using Northern Van Lines again.

Don't Go Near These People

They changed the payment options right after requiring a non-refundable deposit 2 months BEFORE the move. They kept changing the payment options. They NEVER called to confirm pickup. Then showed up hours AFTER the business day on the second day of possible pick up. I had a flight scheduled and had already had to leave town before they arrived. The packer never picked up some items. lost all the screws to put the bed back together. The delivery crew was very, very late not getting deliver finished until after 9pm. The company keeps charging for everything - packing materials that were supposed to be included, extra distance charges...it never stops. I would NEVER use this company again. I called and called to confirm pick up - about 70 times. Usually you end up at an answering machine and they never return calls so I would have to keep calling until I finally got a person on the phone. Then, the person never had the answer and said they would check and call back - which they didn't do. I called and called once they picked up the furniture and after a week finally got someone to admit that the items were STILL in Oregon and hadn't even begun being shipped.

NORTHERN VAN LINES is the WORST ...

I used this company because they were "supposeably" rated with an A rating through the BBB. That was a huge lie! I first used this company because I needed/wanted to get my belongings delivered to me the next week after I moved. I was given a delivery date of April 2nd and a backup date of April 3rd. First, after the movers packed my stuff onto the truck I was to pay half of what I owed. The main guy TRIED to get me to pay for what my weight was ESTIMATED at and not what my truck ACTUALLY weighed!! Why would I pay for an extra 600 lbs thats not on the truck! I had to call his supervisor right on the spot and tell him, so that was $320.00 they TRIED to get me to overpay. A week goes by and no word on my delivery. The guy at dispatch sends me an email in broken english (very unprofessional, yet again) stating that there was a "trailer problem" and that my stuff will not be delivered until April 13-16 (11-14 days PAST my original delivery date. I texted and emailed my contact at the moving company, David, who signed me up, to see what was going on and to send me the contact name and number of who I can talk to because the situation was getting rediculous. He NEVER got back to me (as you can see this company is not very professional). The guy Alex in dispatch, who I couldnt understand because he couldnt speak proper English over the phone, kept telling me "its coming, its coming, be patient" Took 24 days, NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!! I could go with much more about this!!!

Loved their “Can Do” attitude!

I just loved the way the movers managed my move. There were many things to move and some were very expensive and sensitive but they have get the job done without a single mistakes. No complaints whatsoever. They were very professional and they were always ready to take anything on their way. I changed many of my requirements at the 11th hour but they never said “No” to me. They were willing to accommodate all the changes I made. I am really happy with their performance and especially with their “Can Do” attitude.

Excellent company

This was our first move using a moving company in 20 years. With some concern we settled on Northern Van Lines of Oregon. Everything about the move was excellent. Professional employees, prompt service, good communication. Althought they were a little late with the pick-up, they driver called, explained the problem, and came promptly on the new schedule. I have no complaints and would use them again is the need arrived.
