If you return a U-Haul late, you will likely be charged for another day.
If you don't return your U-Haul truck on time you will end up paying an overage fee. If you can tell that you will be late, call U-Haul and explain the situation! They may very well need to get another vehicle in for another reservation, so it is important to let them know. They will also give you instructions and let you know the steps that will need to be taken.
