Brief overview
Alaska was clinched from Russians at the rate of one cent per acre! The deal valued at a little over 7 million dollars; but was termed as “Seward's Folly” (Seward was the secretary to the State at that time). The gold rush and the oil fields made the deal good after decades of criticism.

Alaska counts about a fifth of North America and you can imagine the space as sufficient for one person for one square mile. The extremities of the state are interesting: it has 17 out of the nation's 20 largest peaks, more than 3,000 rivers, and three million lakes. Even the weather is not spared: you can see the 100 degrees Fahrenheit and Fahrenheit to 80 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. In the far north, summer is a three-month day and winter a two-month night.

About a quarter of the residents are natives the rest are turned into at the time of Gold rush and recently the mobile youth from the West in search of best outdoor living are making inflow into the state.

Song: Alaska's Flag

Eight stars of gold on a field of blue -
Alaska&apos flag. May it mean to you
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain l&apoes, and the flow&apors nearby;
The gold of the early sourdough&apos dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams;
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear" - the "Dipper" - and, shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
Over land and sea a beacon bright.
Alaska&apos flag - to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.
