Brief overview
Hawaii, the 50th state to join the union, is more a tourist resort than a permanent home. It is composed of 8 islands - Hawaii, Kahoolawe, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau with each island offering its own exotic landscape.

The ready-to-spend tourists have made living in Hawaii costlier than the national average.

You can land in Oahu via a small airplane and shuttle to other islands. At Honolulu and Waikiki you find most attractive beaches in the islands. And when it comes to nightlife and world-class shopping, it is Waikiki that comes first.

If you are interested in serene area for swimming and windsurfing, consider Maui. You can find the forests shown in Speilberg's Jurassic Park in the island of Kauai – the home for dense forests, jagged mountains, steep valleys, uncrowded beaches, plenty of waterfalls and rainbows, and rainforests populated with rare native species.

Hawaii – the big island, homes Kilauea, the world's largest and most active volcano. You find many luxury resorts here.

The more curious of these islands is the smallest – Molokai where the famous hula dance is originated. This island has no traffic signals, no tour buses, no shopping centers, no fast food chains, no high rises, and virtually no crime.
