Brief overview |
|
|
Living in North Carolina is less costly than the national average. While the cities promise you to give you a world-class quality living, much of the rural NC remains the same.
The education figures are not so encouraging, with students marks not crossing the national average for tests such as SAT (Verbal and Math), the number of people holding bachelors degree and the student pupil ratio are also not favorable. The only exception in the education front is the number of colleges is more and the average salary of the teachers – these both are more than the national averages.
The state government bond ratings stood at AAA(S&P 1999). Taxes are no significant different from the rest of the nation.
If you are an avid sports enthusiast, NC has everything for you, if only you ask for – race cars, skiing, football, boating, swimming, fishing etc.
If you wear tourists' cap than there are attractions like the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge National Parkway, the Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores, the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kitty Hawk, Guilford Courthouse and Moores Creek National Military Parks, Carl Sandburg's home near Hendersonville, and the Old Salem Restoration in Winston-Salem. |

Song: The Old North State |
|
|
Written by William Gaston
Composed by Mrs. E. E. Randolph
Carolina! Carolina! Heaven&apos blessings attend her!
While we live we will cherish, protect and defend her;
Tho&apo the scorner may sneer at and witlings defame her,
Still our hearts swell with gladness whenever we name her.
Hurrah! Hurrah! The
Old North State
forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!
Tho&apo she envies not others, their merited glory,
Say whose name stands the foremost, in Liberty&apos story,
Tho&apo too true to herself e&apoer to crouch to oppression,
Who can yield to just rule a more loyal submission?
Hurrah! Hurrah! The
Old North State
forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!
Plain and artless her sons, but whose doors open
faster
At the knock of a stranger, or the tale of disaster.
How like the rudeness of the dear native mountains,
With rich ore in their bosoms and life in their fountains.
Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State
forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!
And her daughters, the Queen or the forest resembling
So graceful, so constant, yet the gentlest breath trembling.
And true lightwood at heart, let the match be applied them,
How they kindle and flame! Oh! none know but who&apove tried them.
Hurrah! Hurrah! The
Old North State
forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!
Then let all those who love us, love the land that we
live in,
As happy a region as on this side of heaven,
Where plenty and peace, love and joy smile before us,
Raise aloud, raise together the heart thrilling chorus.
Hurrah! Hurrah! The
Old North State
forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!
