Am I liable for damage caused to my stairwell if the guy I hired to deliver a cabinet ped it but he is unlicensed and has no insurance and we had no written contract

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit us here at Movers.com.

Based on the information you have provided, unfortunately it sounds as if you would be liable for the damage to your stairwell.

Hiring a mover

Since there is no insurance to cover the damage and no physical documentation that you hired an unlicensed mover, there is no evidence to prove that they are liable.

When hiring a mover, always verify that they are legitimate by performing a background check. You should also get at least three-estimates from licensed movers in writing before you choose which company to hire.

Don't forget to ask them about their available moving insurance options.

Thanks for your question.
