Q: Tell us a little bit about your company and how you began. Georgia Pack and Load

A: Our company was started in 1995 by the president of our company, Ralph Herrin. We have been in business since then and our current location is in Suwanee, Georgia. We presently employ about 55 people and we run 12 trucks.

Q: What kind of moves do you do?

A: We do local, long distance, residential. We provide loading and unloading help as well as packing services.

Q: What's your favorite thing about working in the moving industry?

A: My favorite thing is actually meeting the challenges of the day-to-day needs of the customer and helping them when they really have a situation that they don't think there is any help to.

We had a customer actually just this past week, they had a situation where they had to move one house out one day. They could not put it in the new house yet. Then two days later, they had a second house-they were actually merging two houses into one. So we were able to move the first house, keep it on our truck, go back and pack the second house and then move both houses into the new house the following day. They just did not know how that was going to happen, that we had that capability.

Q: What's the most common mistake people should avoid when they're moving?

A: Not being forthcoming about the contents in their home. They try to shrink the amount of items that are in their home, so conversely we end up sending out too few of men for the job. Then we get out there and it takes longer time because we don't have the right resources out there to get the job done in the most efficient way. So they actually end up costing themselves more money.

Q: Do you have any advice for customers to avoid that problem?

A: Just be honest and to ask for an in-home estimate. Our company provides them at no charge.

Q: Describe your most memorable moving experience, either as an employee or your own move?

A: There was a Saturday, and I took an online request from a customer and responded back to him. He was unable to get anyone to respond to him over the weekend, so I ended up calling him and helping him out. That move turned into a full week with about seven or eight guys. It turned into a very large job for us that we were able to secure just by responding to the customer over the weekend.

Q: What's the most important piece of wisdom you can lend to people planning a move?

A: To research the prospective companies on any of the search engines as well as the BBB.

Q: What do you think customers should look for when researching companies?

A: The Better Business Bureau, they can also go for instance, in the state of Georgia, they can also go on the Department of Public Safety website and find all licensed movers on that website. Also, a good indication isif they go to Angie's List, Kudzu and Yelp. If there's a trend on those websites that a company has bad reviews, it's a pretty good indicator.

Q: What does your company offer customers that makes you stand out and makes you different from other moving companies?

A: Our rates are the same seven days a week. Shrink-wrapping and blanket-wrapping furniture is included in all of our hourly rates, as well as no additional charge for disconnecting and reconnecting washers and dryers. We never require a booking deposit. We accept all major credit cards as well as local personal checks.

Q: What is the strangest moving request you ever received from a customer?

A: We had a customer that had their deceased pet in a deep freeze and they wanted us to move that. They wanted to know if there was a way we could plug the freezer into our truck to keep it frozen. We declined on that job. We don't turn many jobs away, but on that one we had to. I don't know if we would have been in violation of any state laws.

Q: Anything you'd like to add?

A: All of our movers are employees of the company. We don't use any temporary or day-labor help. The customer never pays for the move until it's completed. We strive for a 100 percent customer satisfaction and if there's something wrong with the move we do whatever we have to make it right.
