Your wardrobes, dressers, and desks should be treated just like any other big piece of furniture when you move, and that is as carefully as possible. For pieces of furniture such as these that contain drawers, your first step is to make sure that all drawers are completely empty prior to disassembling them and readying them for the move. Contents that are still in the drawers can move around in transit and not only become damaged, but they can also damage the furniture itself.
Next, secure the drawers closed with tape, or remove the drawers completely and pack them separately. Drawers will often swing open and closed during the move if they are not secured or removed from the furniture, so it's important that you make sure they are taped tightly prior to moving.
If you need to disassemble the piece and remove any legs or other parts that will make it easier to transport, make sure to keep all screws, nuts, and bolts in a plastic bag and secure that bag to the furniture with tape so that you know which piece of furniture they belong to when it comes time to reassemble it again.
Finally, wrap all pieces of furniture carefully with bubble wrap and then again with moving blankets, covering any and all sharp corners that may damage walls or floors when moving. Cover all of the surface areas of the items that can potentially come in contact with the truck or the walls when moving to prevent damage to your home and to the item itself.
