I have furniture and items in a storage and thought maybe I should sell and or donate to lessen the cost of a long distance move. Any suggestions on how to sell from a storage unit?

Hi, thanks for visiting Movers.com with your question about buying, selling, and donating your unwanted items before your long distance move. I will be happy give you some information on your options.

Sell your items

Selling your items in your storage unit can be done in a few ways:

  • Have a yard sale – simply open your storage unit and set it up as you would outside of your garage
  • List your items to sell online – so many people are online shoppers these days, so any antiques or knickknacks may go quicker if listed online
  • Public auction – this option is a little more involved, but could yield a higher profit if organized correctly, and will get rid of most of your unwanted goods quickly

Donate your items

Even with the most successful yard sale or online ads, you will probably be left with a decent amount of items you still want to get rid of. As long as you don’t mind parting ways with these items without receiving a profit, there are plenty of options available for donation. If not, you may have to find some local consignment stores to make a small profit from these left over items.

Do a little bit of research online to pick the right charitable organization that works for you. Many of these organizations will offer a pick up service as well. You can donate clothing, kitchen items, furniture and electronics you no longer use.

I hope I have provided you with some helpful options to get you started with lightening your load for your long distance move. Good luck! Thanks again for coming to Movers.com!
