Hello, thank you for coming to Movers.com to find an answer to your international moving question. I will be happy to help!
When it comes to moving overseas, every country has a different set of rules and regulations when it comes to clearing shipments through Customs. Many countries do not accept any shipment that has cartons 'PBO,' or 'Packed By Owner.'
Packing for your move to Costa Rica
While packing your own goods is not prohibited when it comes to clearing Customs in Costa Rica based on the most current regulations information (though you should still confirm that with your Destination Agent), it is not advised or encouraged. You will still need to hire an international
moving company or a freight
forwarder to get your containers overseas to Costa Rica, and if that company does not pack your items for you, under most circumstances, they will not be held responsible for any loss or damage during shipment.
Additionally, international moving services have trained professionals who will use the proper techniques and correct materials for packing an overseas shipment. Some countries have very specific rules about the types of containers that can be imported, too (for example, some countries do not allow wood crates unless they have been fumigated), so it would be best to leave it up to the professionals who have experience in such matters.
When you consider any international moving company for hire, make sure you discuss insurance options for your shipment, so you are thoroughly covered in case of any mishap.
