Trying to ship a car engine to a friend in the DR. Can that be done and what expenses are there?

Hi Allen, and thank you for your question!

Customs regulations

If you want to ship an engine from the U.S. to the Dominican Republic, you will need to contact a customs agent in the DR. Every country's custom guidelines and regulations are different, so you'll want to get in touch with a customs representative located in the DR to ensure engines are not prohibited items.

Unfortunately, we are under the impression that separate car parts (including engines) are prohibited unless they are currently inside a vehicle. There are also restrictions on the size of the engine and the type of car.

Motor vehicle regulations

If you want to find out more about customs regulations in the DR -- including ones pertaining to importing motor vehicles --you can head to this informative guide on our website.
