I entered all of my information in and was contacted by a company that should work. Should I be provided a contract prior to paying a deposit?

Im just making sure I dont get scammed. This website seems reputable, but I imagine you have no liability for companies that arent on the up and up. They want a $250 deposit to put us on the calendar. Should I require a contract first?

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit us here at Movers.com.

It is definitely not a general practice to be asked for a deposit ahead of time to hold your delivery date. In fact, the majority of moving companies don't require payment until the day of your move.

Moving deposits

While it is highly uncommon for moving companies to request a deposit, it is not an illegal practice as some have wondered.

However, if this request on behalf of the moving company makes you uncomfortable, perhaps it's best if you go with a different mover. Especially since it's such a large sum of money.

Recognizing scams

To protect yourself against moving scams and moving fraud, we recommend learning more about the different types of moving scams that are out there. Reading up on performing a background check on your movers also wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for your question and good luck finding a mover!
